Sony quietly upgrade Alpha 7R IV to Alpha 7R IV A (ILCE-7RM4A). The most notable change is a dramatic upgrade to the rear LCD resolution, which jumps from 1,440,000 dots to 2,359,296 dots. Two other changes come to both cameras as well: The Sony logo under the LCD monitor has been removed, and the USB port has been upgraded to USB 3.2 "SuperSpeed USB 5Gbps." I think the sale would be on Model without upgrades.
Your points are valid, but you have to look at this from a $1000 point of view, not however much money that you spent on it or it's MSRP when it first came out. Coming from a former a7rII owner, I do agree that it's slow compared to all the newer cameras, but it's still perfectly useable. You also won't find anything that competes with IQ in this price range, it's on par w/ the a7rIV. The outdated color science really is a moot point as people are going to be shooting RAW. Battery life is pretty subpar tho, but third party ones are pretty affordable. I don't think that the wireless technologies matter since you can't transfer RAW files anyways even on the a7rIV, or unless you're planning to transfer your images via ftp. Not having dual card slots is a bummer, but then again not many cameras offer it at this price point. For the discounted price, I think that it's a good value if speed isn't your top priority. I think that it's a good fit for portraits w/ it's continuous Eye-AF, travel, and landscapes. There's really nothing else that touches this camera's sensor at this price point and has the plethora of native lenses, first and third party available for it.

Was going to look at the tamron 70-180 but is the 70-200 sony better at this price. I know apertures and what not, but the IQ and stabilization?

If you're referring to the 70-200 GM the lens is sorely in need of an update and not worth the money IMO. Sony has made a lot of good lenses over the years but that's not one of them.

Is this everything going on discount or just a small amount of the selection?

wow... that's a slickdeal for the A7RIV. Very tempting to sell my A7RIII for the IV at this price. Other than pixels, is it worth upgrading from the A7RIII to A7RIV?

Nah, that's not an upgrade. It's just been updated to follow the USB consortium's naming convention; it used to be called USB 3.0, then USB 3.1 Gen 1. Now it's confusingly been updated to be USB 3.2 Gen 1x1. It's still the same protocol and 5gbps..

The screen is a sorely needed upgrade though; it's not just the resolution that was an issue. It wasn't as bright or saturated as competitors, was physically smaller, and lacked adjustment options.

I have both the 70-200 f4 and tamron 70-180, the tamron is very good great image quality. Pretty comparable to the Sony, imo. Tamron doesn't have lens stabilization but a camera with ibis does a decent job. At slower shutter speeds, the Sony will win out due to oss. The Sony has more buttons and is internal zoom. The tamron is pretty bare. Also black vs white. People look at you differently when you use a white lens.

Thx. I already got the 28-75 and 17-35, but was wondering if the sony is worth it. I think I'll read a few reviews but probably stick with the tammy

Yeah I don't even think the new ones are on the market yet. I've been looking around and don't see them yet.
