PSA: For those in states where you're considering enrolling in the utility program to save money on the thermostat, make sure you carefully read the terms and conditions on those programs. For my state and local utility (and I assume other states and utility companies) the pricing model changes, in some cases drastically, by introducing different levels of peak pricing and sometimes even direct control over your thermostat. Whether it can save you money in the long-term is possible, but just be sure you fully understand what the program entails before jumping in with both feet.

What's your AC bill during the summer?

Whats your heating bill in the winter?

      Mine: 0

I pay 8.8 cents per kwh. I do miss my days of paying 5 dollars a gallon for heating oil and 18 cents per kwh up in MA though.

When it says "trim kit sold separately," does anyone know if that is referring to a new special plate? I remember all the old nest thermostats came with a square or rectangular plate to put behind the thermostat in case the hole in the wall is too big. I think my wall hole might be too big for this. I'm currently using a Honeywell Lyric T5.

My electric cooperative is so generous, they "offer members the opportunity to purchase an ecobee3 lite or ecobee4 smart thermostat at a discounted rate. As a participant, the member will allow the cooperative to control the thermostat during peak periods, saving money and energy for everyone."

      Is that awesome or what!

I replaced a t5 with an ecobee and I needed to use their included plastic circle thing. The ecobee has a very small on wall footprint though. If it didn't curve in at the wall I wouldn't have needed the plastic circle. Not sure what the dimensions of the nest are though. If smaller than the ecobee you most likely will need the trim piece or some paint/plaster lol
