That's getting a bit cray cray (used to be around .26-.28/lb, last year was ~.40/lb)
The Royal Oak Premium $8.88 bags are out of stock everywhere. They usually don't show up until Memorial Day I believe.
My personal favorite briquettes are B&B, followed by Royal Oak All Natural. I like a clean burning briquette. Not much into lump, but Walmart has 30lbs Royal Oak for $17 most of the time.

I'm not really a charcoal snob, lump is great but as much as I just fire some up in the chimney and grill for 2 people, Kingsford (with a couple small lumps of hickory, mesquite, or apple) is still my choice.
I bought Royal Oak and some other kind of Fancy Royal Oak last year and gave away my remaining bags. Was not impressed.
It did not burn hot, it didn't even burn completely down... it just kind of pissed out.
But thank you for the links.
Grilling is fast.
Hot and fast and burn to ash is the whole idea.
With a smaller size Weber chimney full of Kingsford, I can cook several ribeyes or strips for dinner, then some skirt steak and then some boneless chicken breasts to freeze for nachos, quesadillas, etc, and the grill is still hot.
But I cook with cast iron grates around 1" above charcoal and charcoal is in a single layer below grates.
