I think that the price might be pretty good because this hdd is 7200rpm. Changing course a bit, does anyone know whether this drive can be shucked and used as an internal drive?
i think you are comparing elements drives to a black
Black P10 = portable. Black D10 = desktop. There are no portable drives over 5TB from any manufacturer. Don't let the marketing hype of "game drive" fool you. A 7200rpm drive is a 7200rpm drive regardless of product line.

It sounds like you're confusing form-factor (2.5" vs. 3.5") with portability. Every drive that comes installed in an external case is considered "portable".

I believe those are what is referred to as "external". Portable implies it does not require external power, and can be run off a single USB port.

Didn't say it was portable.
As far as I know WD Element drives are 5400rpm. Feel free to provide proof if this isn't' true.
All "portable" drives are external and all "external" drives are portable. Requiring an external power source doesn't make an external drive not portable anymore. I see far more people referring to "external"/"portable" as drives that don't need to be installed inside a case, than as some kind of code word referring to how they're powered. The drive is listed as "WD Black 12TB D10 Game Drive Portable External Hard Drive for Xbox USB 3.2 (WDBA5E0120HBK-NESN)". I guess you could debate it with Newegg if you like. *shrug*
You can't seriously be this naive? Can you run this drive on a laptop with no outlet? No? Then it's not portable. The power source determines whether or not it's portable.
A 30lb tower desktop can be moved to different locations but it won't turn on unless it's plugged in to the wall. A laptop has its own battery and can be used anywhere. It's why a laptop is portable and a desktop isn't.
Anything can be moved. That doesn't make those things portable.

Thank you for taking the time to gracefully explain this because I was just reading the pedantic comments in this thread getting more and more perplexed why people would argue an external hard drive that needs an AC adapter was 'portable'. Unreal guys, be better!
