Scott Pilgrim is getting a 4K theatrical re-release at the end of this month and the director confirmed it will be getting a 4K physical release after that. If you buy it on iTunes now you should be automatically upgraded to the 4K version once it's available.
FFVII: Advent Children is getting a 4K release on June 16 so the same thing about a 4K upgrade should also apply to it.
The version in theaters is going to have remastered and remade special effects, making it a slightly different film. The director said that when converting the film to 4K the original special effects weren't up to snuff, so they decided to go back and do them all over. Not sure how that's going to effect the version of the film already out in the wild. But, I would consider the Scott Pilgrim coming back to theaters as the "Snyder Cut". It's also supposed to have some scenes added back in, and edited slightly different. Like a Scott Pilgrim: Special Edition.

Not to discourage anyone from buying it but Scott Pilgrim is currently on Netflix. Still holds up as a great movie.

Advent Children is also $4.99 on iTunes right now; I'd pull the trigger to get the upgrade in June… but my concern is that the runtime on the Apple Store means that it's the original release, and the 4K version coming in June looks like it's AC:Complete, which is almost 27 minutes longer.

Speaking of Snyder, they did a remastered version of Batman v Superman last month similar to what you describe with adjusted colors and the scenes filmed for IMAX presented in the correct aspect ratio. The digital version was updated on iTunes but it carried over from my previous purchase and was "upgraded" to the new version. I imagine Scott Pilgrim will be similar at least as far as iTunes with the new version replacing the old one and possibly offering the original version as an iTunes Extra menu option.

I guess Tron: Legacy isn't available in 4k and was only filmed in 1080p. I'm sure they will upscale it someday to 4k.

How do I buy these? Do I need an apple device? Landing pages have no add to cart option for me.

Before you buy Sonic from iTunes, note that Sonic is included for free with Prime video if you already have Amazon Prime

I believe you do need either an Apple device or iTunes on a PC to buy these. Apple has released an Apple TV app for pretty much all platforms at this point that allows access to your purchased media but they don't allow you to actually buy things and instead direct you to an Apple device to purchase.

Thanks for the updates guys. I originally saw this in theaters when it came out and it was brilliant. Definitely worth a trip for the re-release. A theater setting elevates this movie even more.
