Not sure why this is a terrible deal. These are still good speakers and can't be found for less anywhere else. They are generally considered better sounding than the Symfonisk from Ikea, and make good surrounds. Plus they are S2 compatible.
Yes, they may be dropped at some point, but they are still a good value. No sense (for me) to spend $60+ more a speaker for the newer versions (I don't need airplay or a voice assistant).
Thanks for sharing the discontinued bit. My friend was looking for one and they don't like the ones with Mics. Their system is all Play 1's throughout their place.
OP, thanks for sharing. In for one.
The discontinued part is right. The warranty part is wrong. You get 1 Year warranty.
Discontinued model. Also, it had a lot of issues with disconnecting from my personal experience.
I have 4 of these. I used them with the bridge until they discontinued that via updates and now they are all connected directly to my regular WiFi. Never had any issues with disconnects. I may just be fortunate or it's related to the WiFi it's connected to.
I have 5 Play:1's in my house and have never had a real issue. Buying a Boost helps a ton with stability. they can be found for about $40 pretty easily. I don't picture Sonos making these incompatible any time soon since they are probably the most common speaker out there and a lot of folks would lose their mind.
These are a good deal which is tough to find on Sonos. Yes there is some risk that at some point down the road (probably years since V2 was released relatively recently and they are compatible) but it has been my experience that when Sonos makes a product obsolete they offer a 30% off your next speaker promotion. If you apply that to a sub (for example) you would get $200+ off, more than this speaker costs. On that note just owning this will give you access to 15% off a new speaker from Sonos which depending what you are in the market for could pay for this speaker just with the discount.
The whole discontinued part is so silly that just means they won't make them more/ not that they're not good value or functional. Actually as sureounds there's literally no reason to pay more for a Sonos one. You can't use their assistant when it's paired to a soundbar.
This is a good deal a year warranty is solid and any issues will likely show up.
Those saying it's old speaker who cares it works with s2 and Sonos ain't about to be dropping v3 v4 v5 lol: it took them YEARS to drop v2. Many many years. By then you'll be thinking about something else .
Edit: if I have Sonos ones as surrounds I can get these and put the Sonos ones where they can be used as smart speakers!

These sound identical to the Ikea ones. Have both and can hear no difference.
$100 for these is pretty solid. For those bashing these as "discontinued", does it mean that the newer models are far superior in sound and built quality??
IMO the newer ones with voice assistant are not worth the extra $$$. I own both and I would rather get play 1's and save the $$$. As someone else mentioned, these are great surround speakers, I use them with Sonos beam for my bedroom audio setup. Never had any issues and I cannot differentiate in sound quality with the newer models even while playing HiFi sounds from Tidal.

You are getting a discontinued speaker that has been refurbished and has little warranty and no future support. You limit functionality when talking about adding these to future adds to your system.
i have a bunch of old speakers from sonos and currently have to use their older app. I run into a lot of dumb problems with it. From randomly disconnecting to volume controls not working outside of the sonos app (Spotify in my case) They work 90% of the time but that other 10% makes me want to kick them in the grill.
Just FYI these do not have airplay! They are a great speaker but the newer versions have airplay 2. These make great surround speakers with a Sonos sound bar though! That's what I use them for!

Why not just buy the ikea one that's literally the same thing, about the same price and brand new?
I have 1 play:1, 2 play ones, 1 play:3, a beam, an ikea symfonisk modified to use an external powered sub. I will be getting an additional symfonisk to be my surround speaker in my beam setup but tempted to get another play:1 purely for the stereo pairing capability... compared between play:1 and symfonisk, I feel the play:1 has better bass depth bc it is a tighter built unit, the ikea speaker feels less sturdy due to the lower grade plastic. I love the sonos ecosystem for the pure simplicity and response. Just giving my 2 pennies
