Not bad on a Traeger, one good thing about them just like Weber is if you need parts they are accessible, if you but a generic knockoff you're pretty much s.o.l.

Nice price. I've had a Traeger for years and the results have been great overall. Agreed on the previous post about parts for both Traeger and Weber (have had my Weber almost 10 years and only had to replace one minor part, but was super available).

For those who have this, how is the overall smoke flavor? Do you like the Traeger brand pellets or do you use something else?

If someone tells you that this or any other pellet grill creates great smoke flavor, they're either lieing or have never had smoked food off a real stick burner. I have a few smokers as well as I've eaten food off nearly every pellet brand. Yes they're great to cook on, yes they're set and forget (with PID controller), yes they do produce fantastic food. But....... If you're looking for real smoke flavor, you'll be disappointed. Many will say to put a smoke tube or 2 in them. They do help but nothing replaces a true stick burner for smoke flavor.

I'll piggy back off Cobra and say that as someone who knew this going in I was still disappointed with my Traeger century 885 so much that I took it back to Costco because it produced zero smoke. Literally an outdoor oven. I have since bought a recteq RT-700 and am very happy with it. It actually produces plenty of smoke flavor for me to justify the trade off for convenience of a pellet smoker. But as Cobra said it will never beat a green egg or stick burner.

Exactly the type of answer I was looking for. But let me ask, would you notice a grill/smoke flavor off one of these which would be more pronounced as opposed just cooking something in your home oven?

Thanks. Recteq has a big following and they use mostly SS in their construction. Have only heard good things about them.

Not necessarily piggy backing off both comments above but another option for good smoke is vertical smokers. I'm a set it and forget it type griller. I'm also very frugal so investing in $500-$1,000 grills is not an option unless it smokes perfectly each time & is guaranteed to last for years.

Unfortunately entry level vertical smokers are Masterbuilt and similar low-quality units that typically have these flaws:
*poor sealing (can probably be helped with high temperature silicone sealant
*poor temperature regulation (mine usually topped out at 325 so not a disaster but if you want to cook at 250 for 12 hours, it's an issue)
*poor durability. I've have 2 with weekly smoking lasted about 6 months.

But being cheap and having an extra heating element that fits this model, I ordered another Masterbuilt analog electric smoker from Walmart. At this price $97 it is rarely available & goes in/out of stock. If you buy, definitely get the $12 Allstate warranty. Wood chips work fine in the smoker box and run about $3/bag.

Two other words of advice if you buy: get a small dollar store flexible aluminum pan (appx 9x12) to place below the lower rack to catch drippings and not allow to land on heating element. Do make sure the smoker box makes contact with the heating element as that is the only way I've found it gets hot enough to smoke.

Rod Gray might beg to differ and I've been using pellets for a couple of years with no issues in driving flavor...a good craftsman doesn't blame their tools

I haven't used a Traeger, but have been using a knockoff pellet grill from Sam's club for over a year. There might be some variation in pellets, but I have been happy with the smoke flavor I get from mine. In the past week, I did a tri-tip and a pork butt. Both had nice smoke rings and great flavor. Thumbs up from everyone who tried it.

What brand and flavor of pellets do you use?
