This loses security updates and phone support oct 21, 6 months, who would buy something with 6 months of support right out the gate?

Picked one up for my wife the other day. I was skeptical it was actually new. But if it was a refurb it's the cleanest one I've ever seen.

Edit: No idea who's downvoting this deal. Pixel 3 may be 2 years old but it's still awesome and $170 for this level of phone is impossible to find. Hell technically a Pixel 5 has a slower processor. 3 just has less ram.

Edit 2: I'm not saying I got a refurb. I'm saying that it looks perfect so I would be very surprised it was a refurb because I've never seen a perfect refurb. All the packaging appears new and not replaced. The adhesive on the interior packaging for the ear buds and power cord was very gummy which leads me to believe it's just been sitting for 2 years. And the battery was dead which would be typical for a phone that's been sitting for 2 years and not a refurb.

This is just the same deal from last week, right? I ordered the pink one, it came just fine, new. It estimated it would take 3 weeks to arrive, but ended up coming in less than a week. I opened it, removed whatever SIM card was in there, plopped in my T-Mobile one, and it booted up just fine. Ran through all the updates (took a few hours, going from 9, to 10, to 11, and then a bunch of 11 security updates) and then it was off to the races.

Great deal, who cares about the color, it should go in a case anyway.

So they advertised as new, but you received a refurbished unit?
No I'm saying it appears new. Please read my post. I'm saying that I've never seen a refurb that's this clean so that tends to make believe it's actually new as advertised.

In the past, Google has supported phones much longer than the guaranteed date that they publish. Just something to consider for those on the fence.

Edit: I was wrong. 1-3 months after their guarantee. Hardly "much longer."

The big question for me is how will the updates be handled. With a normal Google unlocked phone Google will do OTA updates. But this is a Verizon phone, so I have no idea. I will not be on Verizon network, so I might never see any updates. Anybody have an answer?

Since Amazon is a real company does google have to honor the warranty with receipt. If so I'll bite if boot loader unlocked

I think this is the verizon model. Last time I checked, these aren't bootloader unlocked.

Is that unlocked or Verizon variant?

For a few months more maybe, not much longer. Google has actually cut off the previous Pixels pretty strictly after the promised support date has passed.

Actually, you're right. I just looked it up. For some reason, I thought my Pixel 1 had received support for a year longer, but I was def wrong. It got 3 more months than the official cut-off date.

So does that mean the phone is useless after the security updates stop? Sorta like the old phones when they can't be updated so apps no longer run?
