Someone who would want the unlimited original quality Photos storage benefit offered by Google until Jan 31st 2022 [google.com], and high quality indefinitely (no announced end date) afterword.

Google Photos announced they would start counting photos uploads against storage after June 1st, 2021 [google.com]. I take a LOT of photos/video and upload a lot onto the platform, even in high quality it is over 4TB uploaded. The storage benefit on Pixel phones are by device, not by account. Also you don't have to actually take the photos on the phone to upload them, just have them on the device. No problem for me especially since I'm loading upwards of 30GB at a time.

I don't mind the people saying "but it's the cloud", and I do have other backups, but the stellar object recognition, mapping of photos, and power of the service they offer can't be beat in my opinion.

Just because the phone loses updates does not mean it stops functioning. Most phones from other manufacturers rarely get updates after the first year, and some never do.

I've used my Pixel 2 and a USB-C to HDMI adapter to play local media on a television. Old as hell, but still snappy.

Some security apps (and plenty of others) pull support for older Android versions. So it's a possible concern to consider.

Tempting price. But I'd be worried about the battery. I know it says it guarantees 85% battery whatever that means. If the battery wasn't so hard to replace, I'd be more open to the idea.

How's the battery life on the 3xl?
Not great. I had a Pixel 3 XL when it was new and the battery life was below average. The battery on these 3 year old refurbished Pixel 3XLs will definitely be noticeably worse due to degradation.

80% already means the battery is severely degraded and in need of replacement, their 85% guarantee is not very reassuring.

IMHO, the best feature of these phones is that they buy you continued unlimited "high quality" photo uploads to Google Photo.

Downside: The pics have to be uploaded from the Pixel.

So I guess that means finding an efficient way to transfer photos from another phone to the Pixel and then using the Pixel to upload to the cloud.

Is there any free and automated method for pushing photos from another phone to the Pixel, where they will then get a free upload?

.

IIRC the photo needs to be taken and uploaded by the pixel. You would need to forge the image metadata as well.

I bought one last time. I received the broken screen phone. That was not first time for such experience from woot. Woot really meant scratch and dent for any product. They will really make sure they send scratch and dent.

But they have good return policy. They accepted my return.

Haven't purchased from Woot before, how's "scratch and dent" quality usually?

Woot is Amazon's Junkyard. Expect the worst on not new electronics.
Yup, exactly! Woot used to be okay a few years back but now they're just a dumping ground for old or used crap which they don't want to put on Amazon and ruin their name. And I hate that the terms "refurbished" or "scratch and dent" are used so loosely these days. Look at the post just above and the person said they got one with a broken screen LOL. Scratch and dent and stepped on LOL. Don't think these are tested out at all. And by the past deal posts for these phones, there's no telling what variant you'll be getting either (some were saying that it may be bootloader locked because it's the Verizon version). Last page someone mentioned that they received a Japanese version LOL. WTF? Could very well be missing some necessary bands for your carrier. Was thinking about grabbing one of these to mess around with the last time they were posted but saw comments about the locked bootloader and said nope, hard pass.

I dropped my 3 and cracked the screen. Not worth fixing. Trying to decide between one of these and newer. I do get the 6 months thing but for $100/$130, you get a fairly solid phone. I've been really happy with mine. I think there is an occasional lag when viewing big photos and then switching apps due to the 2 GB of RAM. But I rarely run into that and it's super fast otherwise. Really a great phone. Just wish I hadn't been clumsy with the case off (had it off to clean the port as described below, forgot to put it on and...).

Not bad if you need a phone... I would personally probably keep waiting longer, and upgrade for at least the 4a5g, if it went below $150 in the future.

I know some people really like Pixel phones for some custom ROM(?) that is very security focused.

Probably not a common issue, but a friend has the pixel 3, and the charger port just doesn't work anymore. But I think he has wireless charging, so he can at least still charge it that way
I have a Pixel 3 and my port got really gunked up. I had to use a plastic tooth pick and clean all the lint out of the bottom of the USB C port and I didn't get it all the first time. Then my charging plug finally seated properly at the normal depth. Mine was charging all along just cable fell out often. If that is their problem too, a bright light and a little time with a plastic tooth pick (has to be skinny, wood would be too thick) might fix it!

I wish Samsung quit updating phones. If they did, I'd still be using my Galaxy S7. Instead, they practically bricked it with updates that slowed it down until the camera takes several seconds to launch and all the apps are sluggish, even on a fresh install.

That's how I got my current (free) Pixel 3. My dad thought it was broken and I cleaned out the gunk in the charging port. He'd already bought a new one before I figured it out though.
