Dark coffee has less caffeine and also generally should be cheaper because the roast itself overpowers the subtle qualities of coffee that make expensive coffee expensive.

Someone who has kids who are asleep and would be woken when I wake up at 3:30 a.m. if I was grinding beans every morning. Don't get me wrong, I like whole bean, but it's not always practical.

Ground coffee is good for a few days, doesn't have to be done every morning. I use to grind my coffee Sunday evening for the week because of a similar issue.
That being said, not everyone cares for the taste of coffee so I understand why people prefer preground

I have tried death wish preground, it wasn't terrible, but was far from one of my favorites.
Death wish is marketed basically for caffeine content. The arabica (classic) bean has much better flavor but the robusta (tends to be a little more harsh and bitter, but generally simpler flavor compounds) contains about 25% more caffeine by weight. I am guessing they go with robusta "not my cup of coffee"
I enjoy the complexity that arabica can deliver. To each their own.
