They recommend every six months, but it will depend on how much you're using it and how filthy the area is. Their replacements are typically not inexpensive.
I bought the one from BB for 250 as it was 540 sql footage previously.
This is 1.5 times the cost and size is 100 sql footage less!!

True HEPA is the difference.
Not an expert so can't comment on the real world improvement of having a true HEPA filter as opposed to '99% of PM 2.5 airborne pollutants' as mentioned in the product details for the 211+
