How does this compare to the recent MSI GE75 Raider?

- double the RAM (~$80 upgrade)
- faster ram (2933 MHz vs 2666 MHz)
- double the SSD size, but no HD (about even)
- windows pro instead of home ($80 - $100 upgrade)
- brand difference
- cooling ?
- RGB LED lighting (a little excessive I think, but kind of cool)
- 15 in vs 17 in display (this laptop is smaller)
- no webcam
- slightly bigger battery (66 Wh vs 51 Wh)

None of those differences are likely limiting for gaming (the faster RAM might make a small difference). The price difference is justified, I think by some of those things, though the MSI deal was maybe a little better value wise.

I like ASUS, so I'm considering getting this. I also much prefer windows pro, so that's a real bonus for me. You can find people swearing either way on the brand debate. I have an ~8 year old equivalent ASUS ROG laptop that has held up reasonably well, so I have some good will built up for them.

Is probably a good/decent buy if gaming is your primary use and you like the ROG design. Personally, though, I can't imagine buying 6 core intel comet lake machine at almost $1500 today. Although I will say that the 32GB of RAM and 1TB NVMe SSD do count for something WRT the price.

I think at this price point and higher you should be looking for the 30 GPU's. I'm indifference to all the other specs.

This is 15.6" and the other (MSI GE 75)has a 17.3" screen. They belong is separate classes of laptops based on screen size. As an analogy one is a golf ball and the other is a tennis ball. They are not the same based on size and uses.

You can wait for a year for that to happen.

A better question to ask -
"Does this laptop supply the full 115 wattage to the 2070 RTX GPU or is it wattage constrained?"

A 90 watt and 115 watt RTX 2070 will perform very differently and in a gaming laptop you will want the full 115 watts. Having said that, I don't know how many watts are supplied to the GPU in this Asus laptop. (The MSI GE 75 gets the full 115 watts)

The Asus 15.6" is about 5.07 lbs while the 17.3" MSI is 5.67 lbs. Not much of a difference but if you are lugging the laptop every weekday then it does mater.

Nice. Usually COSTCO charges $9.99 for most laptops.

You missed one major difference. The ROG has a "value IPS display"... ie a cheap one. Poor color gamut, poor brightness, slow response.

"For the price and what you are getting is great except one big issue, the panel is terrible. The screen is barely accessible, color is very faded and it's barely in the high 50s range in the sRGB. It's 144Hz but the color saturation is just bad, for the build of this laptop it deserves a nicer panel."

Stuff that most people probably wouldn't care about. Since additional admin and network tools, remote desktop, bitlocker encryption are some features I use.
