Got the 2 pack for a cheap speaker for the shower and one to keep for traveling purposes. From the comments it doesn't seem like the app support will last, but for a basic 50w splashproof bluetooth speaker for ~$40 each it's not bad.

Just FYI, the zipp speaker is wireless and not Bluetooth. I tried to use the speaker away from a WiFi network and have it play my iPhone's music via Bluetooth only, and it doesn't work that way. Bad on me for not realizing the limitation but it really does limit the speaker's use away from your home or WiFi networks. In other words, unless the beach or picnic area has WiFi, the speaker cannot play any music. Major bummer in my opinion.

I got a Zipp 2 from Morningsave awhile back and I love the thing, but it can be a little finicky with Airplay 2 with connecting and buffering. Here's how I resolved both issues:

If you have trouble trying to add your Zipp 2 to iOS Homekit in the Home App, try the following:
-Put the Zipp in paring mode by long pressing the bird button on top, then pushing the little icon that looks like wireless.
-Go into the Home app, click the Rooms button on the bottom and go to the room you want the speaker associated with(the addition would fail after Wifi setup if I skipped this step)
-Click the + icon, select "Add Accessory", select "I don't have a code". The speaker should then show up shortly, and after selecting it it will hopefully get added to your Home.

If your Zipp 2 is skipping on Airplay 2 playback:
What worked for me is always using an HomePod as the audio source, and then Airplay 2'ing to the Zipp. My guess is that the Zipp2 doesn't quite buffer enough for the latency from my iPhone -> HomeKit Hub -> Zipp 2, while the HomePods are Homekit hub's and can skip that first leg. If you don't have a home pod, it might work better if you can leave the source device close to your Homekit Hub, though I never got to trying this. Yes this is annoying, but the speaker sounds amazing for $80 and this drawback applies only to Airplay 2.

This was a thing for a minute becauae Bluetooth has limited bandwidth and compress the music.

WiFi is used for gaming headset and some home audio equipment for faster response and better sound.

wow, what a giant limitation. i remember when wireless speakers were segmented more strictly that way, but there was no excuse for this in 2019 when the zipp 2 came out.

This is absolutely false. The Zipp, Zipp Mini, Zipp 2 and Zipp 2 Mini all have Bluetooth that works like any other speaker.

They do have WiFi that gives you better sound when that is available, but you always have the option of using Bluetooth instead. They do require a phone to play music from on Bluetooth, just like any other Bluetooth speaker. Google any review. They all mention it. I cannot speak for previous models, but I own both the Zipp and Zipp 2 sold here, and they have Bluetooth.

My guess is Wesley was trying to use the Libratone App to play music, rather than just stream music from his phone directly to the Zipp. The app uses Bluetooth briefly to help set up the system, but then streams using WiFi. Google Smart Speakers work the same way. A touch control on top of the speaker switches it from WiFi mode to Bluetooth mode. With Apple devices, Airplay also requires WiFi...so use Bluetooth Mode.

I'm torn between getting a Zipp 2 as opposed to an HK Onyx (probably a series 4). Anyone have experience with both? I used to have a first gen Onyx and absolutely loved it, but the connectivity on the Zipp is enticing.

Bought the one and the two. The one starts to sound good at mid volume, lower volume is lacking a bit. The two is ok at lower volume, but mid to high and I'm getting lots of bass distortion, one it starts distorting it's game over as the mids are affected and it gets super muddy fast. Like others posted these are not for bass, they are clear so good for low to mid volume applications. At $50 for the larger one I'd shop around before committing
