Should be m10.8 actually lol
Actually, the Flexvolt can utilize the higher amp Flexvolt batteries, as well as the 6 and 8 amp 20v batteries with the larger internal cells that can discharge more per time frame.

The comparison with the 5 amp 20v batteries that still use the smaller lithium cells that do not have the same discharge capability is true. There is a noticeable difference in power.

This is DeWalt's top of the line with Flexvolt Advantage. It's a bit unclear if it really is any better than the DCD996. Both seem to be able to use a Flexvolt battery for more power. Some say using the Flexvolt battery on the 996 may burn it out, but it's not proven. Seems like a solid deal assuming one can resell the battery and charger for at least $70.

There's no such thing as 12V either, but for some reason M11 just doesn't have the same ring to it.

If important, note it's not SDS. Larger bits/jobs have a different requirement.

Pssst, Flexvolt Advantage really isn't Flexvolt. It's a scummy marketing scam. Totally misleading and ploy play on words. Kinda like there's no such thing as 20v. DeFault is just the scummiest.

The 998 has bluetooth 'Tool Connect' that I have never used and can utilize the higher amp batteries with a higher discharge rate. I am not certain if the LED light was improved, as there is an option to keep turned on for 20 minutes. I would prefer the option to turn off.

That said, either the 996 or 998 has all the power one needs and why the extra long handle.... you will need it. You have straight or hammer drilling with an adjustable clutched setting for driving screws, lags, etc. On occasion, we have even used the SDS plus masonry bits in this, but the straight shank are probably better.

All in all, this is a powerful, versatile tool that might be a touch much for the average homeowner.... but this is a decent price before the shipping costs of $15.40 for me, for the tool, 5amp battery, DCB101 charger that says is 4amps that the DCB115 replaced and bag.

It says/shows DCB101 charger for the DCB205CK kit [dewalt.com] that was replaced by the DCB115 several years ago. Both are supposed to be 4amp chargers and who knows, maybe the 115 is being shipped, but I have to go by the DeWalt website that is always behind. The 2amp DCB107 is the one everyone whines about (slow), but actually perfect for the 1.5 and 2 amp batteries.

A 4amp charger is fine and about all you want on a 5amp 20v battery for longevity of the battery. From completely empty, which is never totally dead on a lithium, it takes a little over an hour to charge and balance a 5amp battery.... but a little longer outside in warmer climates for the cool down period.

I noticed no difference at all myself. I jumped on the Flex Advantage tools when they came out.... Only to discover that it was a gimmick.

The 996, imo, is still Dewalt's best Ham Dr , in their 20v class. I really worry about Dewalt. It's been one flop after another in their "advancements" the past couple years.

Edit: I own a lot of the better Dewalt tools. Their good tools great, their less than good (routers, atomic, brushed) are sub-par. I. wish Dewalt would expand on what they used to be known for, rather than implementing gimmicks. it breaks the yellow/black parts of my heart.

Yet no one seems to get anywhere near that result when testing outside of the Dewalt lab.

Also, I use the 60v in my XR's (especially the angle grinders... they gobble batteries fast)... never had an issue.
