Are these are 100% battery powered and not hard-wired and interconnected? My detectors are almost 10-years old and one should replace ever 10 years.
Battery only. And not interconnected as these are supposed to be connected to a z-wave hub that should have a way to alert you (a siren, notification, etc)
I have these and have been happy so far. I change the batteries every 6 months. I've always have been doing it like this and just continued doing it with these as I expected more energy consumption.
This is a pretty good deal. But the battery life on these things suck.
They really need lithium batteries. Typical zinc/carbon batteries seem to still have capacity left when the voltage drops below the "chirp" level. I tried rechargeable batteries but they only last like 2 months in comparison due to low chemistry voltage and poor discharge curve. Energizer Lithium seems to be 6+ months although I can't say that I have marked the dates on them.

I believe it's mandated to have wired/interconnected detectors for smoke detectors to pass township inspection especially when you sell your home.
This varies by state/towns. In my state you only need to have working smoke/CO detectors when you sell.
I have mine registered with the town as I have professional monitoring and they were ok with them.
Thanks..good to know, my township is probably too strict. I would like to switch to Z-wave based detectors ASAP but might have to wait when the wired interconnected ones come on sale or my township update their rules in favor of new technology especially when everything is going wireless.
A lot of towns require you to register your alarms if you have monitoring (a way to control a bit dispatching police/fire department for false alarms). Different towns have different ways of doing it. In my town you send a form to the alarm department and an inspector will come and have a look at your system (inspection is only if you have fire monitoring). There's a yearly fee in my town of $25.
