Now at this price I would recommend this unit, however at original price I would recommend something else if you want true triband functionality
Maybe I just got lucky hard to say but to me it is a great mesh system, my house is 2 stories and about 3200 sq ft with a lot of streaming cameras. I actually run 2 separate routers pretty much all the time as I am usually testing one. Most recent was Linksys Wifi 6+ router it was pretty amazing as far as speed close to the router but once you move away you really need that mesh system to keep the speed up around the house.
The router will work with any modem, or if you have an IP address coming from your provider. You can also attach it via ethernet to another router and if you want you can turn the wifi off of the first router.
The companies REALLY want you to use the apps but for me the desktop makes the most sense 99% of the time. I don't have kids that I am worried about using the internet after they are supposed to be in bed or anything like that.
I keep the guest network off usually but did have a salesman come over and I turned it on for him so he could have internet access.
I have a lot of IOT devices as well as cameras so I believe my "normal" data level is pretty high the cameras store the data locally so it does not eat up my data cap but does use bandwidth.
The only thing I don't do that much of is playing online games no PlayStation or X box and I do have Satellite TV so we do not stream that much TV even though I subscribe to several streaming services
The big thing for me is that I have had the Orbi for over a year now and no issues with heat.
Many routers want to be small but in reality they are doing a lot of work and generate heat. heat is what causes routers to hang as well as certain OS issues, the Orbi is pretty large.
My daughter was having router issue and I set it to restart once a week automatically and it has been fine ever since.
I'm in the same boat. I just got a few MacBook Pro laptops; so looking to improve WiFi speed but not break the bank.
My current rb50 get about top off at 500Mbps.

I have been renting their router and would love to not pay their equipment fee...
No, this doesn't include a router. I'm not sure about frontier, but I ended up buying a router and modem (2 separate things) so I wouldn't need to rent from Comcast. This satisfies the router part, but you also need a separate modem.
I gave up.
Before trashing the unit, I looked into the bottom of the box. A receipt for a previous customer was there. What a horrible experience for buying directly from the manufacturer.
Next time, if I want to buy a product from this company, I shall get it from Costco or Amazon where I can return a bad unit.
Not sure if it's too much for my situation, just wife, I and baby.
1) Poor transmission through corners (had to buy a satellite to place in my daughter's room, and they can run as much as $100/each), although good transmission otherwise. The range isn't as amazing as the ads lead you to believe, but it's better than any non-mesh router I've owned in the past.
2) This is a deal killer for me: If you want to schedule when you turn off internet for certain devices (e.g., for kids at night time), you will spend $50/year for the feature. You can turn off by hand at any time through the app, but have to pay for scheduling.
I returned the m5 and went with the Orbi. It was so simple to set it up. I've used it for almost a whole year now and I haven't had any connection issue inside of my three story house (~2500sqft). It's amazing what just one satellite can do. I have the main router in the main level that covers both main and the second floor, and I set up the satellite in the basement.
I use NETGEAR CM1000 for the modem and pay for the 400Mbps internet speed and I consistently get around 200-300 Mpbs download and 15-20 for upload upstairs. Around 150-200 download and 10-15 upload in the basement. This is with 30+ different devices connected to the same network.
I've recommended these to several different people who live in a similar three story house and they all love it.
One thing they could improve is their app. Things you can do in there are pretty limited. Although you can access the router from your internet browser which has more controls.

I care about you as a living being; that is why I share this. I have nothing to gain. The industry has billions to lose from the truth about their tech coming to light to the general population, that is why they have brainwashed people into reacting without thought, discarding the facts as "conspiracy" or in some other way unbeliveable.

I purchased an older Orbi system for my parents. Had issues initially b/c they had 3 satellites too close to each other but switching to using only 2 made it work a lot better. A huge downside to these systems is the router settings/interface. The Orbi app is garbage, only connects to the system half the time and takes a while to load. Never forgets to ask if you want to subscribe to their premium service though! Viewing basic features like bandwidth usage and monitoring are labelled "premium" features that you need to pay a monthly subscription for and there are very limited amount of settings/customization that can be done with the network.
I have Synology gear at home and it is night and day comparing the Synology Router Manager to Netgear's app.
