Not sure how to get the full 30%. Everything I try is 10% off the base rate + a gift card worth 10% of that discounted base rate.

I didn't see any real discount and certainly not anything like the current D000XXX AWD code might be offering. How does one UNLINK the amazon account?

Difference between this post and the current D000XXX post is that the D000XXX codes are technically corporate codes that users should be an employee of or risk having their reservation cancelled or trouble with insurance if there is an accident. If you are planning on booking using that code, I would read through all of the comments on that thread to evaluate the risk you are taking on.

This method bypasses those 2 risks and my booking was about the same cost using this method as the corporate method coupled with the peace of mind of starting the vacation on a bad note. YMMV as to the exact savings, but that is applicable for both of these posts.

Yes, understood. But, for a rental I have been pricing, THIS method was literally 2x the price of the other AWD.. which I'm not planning to do but still didn't expect this to yield nearly nothing from a discount standpoint. Any idea how to drop the linkage?

Your mileage is going to vary depending on your specific circumstance. I am saving over $150 using the Amazon Prime deal over booking without a code and it is coming out to pretty much the same price as using one of these corporate codes. You should be able to enter whatever other promo code you want to use instead of the Amazon Prime code.

D000XXX codes are really risky. I got an incredible discount last week and pre-paid, but when picking up the car I was asked to show proof of employment with (whatever the company code was) and said I didn't have it with me, and they wouldn't give me the car unless I paid the $200 difference after the code was removed. The original difference was $330 so the agent was nice to throw a coupon on there.

What I complained about, and the agent agrees is dirty, is how the website allows you to make the booking without any indication that you might be asked to prove your corporate discount (or that you are using a corp discount at all).

It's a bait and switch, basically. Avis is the only rental company I've actually had ask for the ID.

Car and Driver generally has a corporate code you can use and thats in their magazine. they have it for Hertz and a few others. i've been lucky renting through hertz/fox/rentacar/budget etc all without using being asked. another one is Rental Car Momma they have a lot of codes you can use and i never had issues with them.

More Expensive than the other deal. Also, Budget and Avis websites are very familiar, both can also link with amazon account with giftcard and Budget is way cheaper.

It depends on your circumstance, but for my current reservation Budget is $250 more than the Avis deal that I posted, so wouldn't say that Budget is always way cheaper.
