What? No. If you are trying to protect your eyes from window and snow, I guess. But if are trying to protect your eyes from metal shavings and impact? Get something actually rated for that.

This is incredibly terrible and irresponsible advice.

Not saying it's likely but also transmission through viral droplets landing in eyes is not impossible

I wore one during a flight recently. Peace of mind, and didn't look too awkward.
