I have the Gaggia Classic pro and love it. I have never owned a Breville, but my in laws have a Breville Barista Express that I've used on a few occasions. I don't think it pulls nearly as good a shot as my Gaggia. Considering Gaggia is quite a bit less expensive and has a such a great reputation for durability, I think it's the way to go.
Breville Espresso machines are pretty well-made (supposedly internal Italian parts and assembled in China) and are of great value due to their price points. I have the Barista Express and had an issue with the low temperature hot water at the extraction (175-180 degree average) head and Breville ended up sending me a replacement and the machine has been working "perfectly" for the past 6 months (brew temperature is around 190 degrees; makes a world of difference in freshly freshly ground and brewed beans).
Breville's customer service is top-notch and very helpful. The only "downside" of their customer service department is the wait time. When I called, 100% of the time, I received a recording where it's best to leave your phone number and calls are returned between 45 - 90 minutes. So, you'll have to be "ready" when they call back. They are quite helpful and very fair from there.
Anyone have suggestions to improve the deal? Seems a number of retailers are offering this same price. Per a prior thread, the Bloomingdales' 15% new customer code used to work, but I just tried and the coupon didn't work on the Barista Express model. Thanks!

As mentioned above, you can try your luck with Bed Bath and Beyond customer service and see if they will apply 20% off, some people have had luck in the past. Also, Macy's has the same price today and you can get 4% back by going through urlhasbeenblocked (I'm not sure how much you get back by going through Slickdeals). Sur La Table offers $15 off your first $75 order if you sign up your email.
Also, I don't know if this is legit or how Etsy.com works, but I see the Breville Barista Express much cheaper there all the time. Such as this one for $480 for new and free shipping: https://www.etsy.com/listing/9931...a=1&gao=1&

Just got the Barista Express for $479 from BBBY by calling! I was told it was excluded from coupons but "sometimes items like this one work anyway." Got an additional 1% CB from popular cashback service I can't name here.
Also consider using a card like Chase Freedom or Prime Visa that will add a year to the warranty. I'm excited for this machine but hear occasional stories of it breaking not too long into its use.

I've been waiting for this! Bought at bed bath and beyond. Took advantage of the gift card promotion over the holidays (free $10 gc with every $50 gc purchase) and got them to apply the 20% off by calling. $650 after tax for the barista touch.

so funny.
the only internal part that was made in Italy was the solenoid
and guess what part failed the most for this machine? solenoid
i know because i have this machine for over 8 years, and I had to replace the solenoid. go look around for 870XL solenoid or cracking noise, it is all over the internet. i had to wait 6 month for a replacement part while my machine failed apart.
just check often if those replacement part ever comes back in stock (they are mostly likely factory back-ordered, i wonder why...). you really should grab one if you have 870XL.
