It's been this price multiple times previously, though still a good deal.

There's no need to jump on this at this price unless you really want an a7iii and have access to a EDU account.

Personally I shoot on this camera like a ton of other SD users and love it. It's a great full frame camera and keeps professional work cheap using something like Tamron glass. I highly recommend it for anyone looking to get more seriously into photography, but not totally break the bank on your budget getting setup.

Thumbs up from me. 👍👍👍
Photography is just as much about technique and knowledge as it is about the hardware.
The difference is modern smartphones remove the need for proper knowledge and technique to produce fairly nice photos.
Too many people think buying an expensive camera will make them take better pictures. It wont. You as a person have to be able to use the camera effectively.
All else equal an unskilled individual will take substantially better pictures on a phone.
And a casual driver will drive much better in a Toyota Camry than a Formula One car, lol.

I believe these are 1452 during BF last year.
Still a solid price though.

If I currently have an APS-C Sony mirrorless, would I need new lenses to support full frame on this camera?

Yes assuming your lenses are APS-C lenses, you'll need full frame format lenses to fully utilize this. You can use your old lenses on this but it'll use only part of the sensor (APS-C size).

You can use a crop factor calculator to figure out what they will be on a full frame like this. Just Google one.

If your camera is an E-MOUNT then yes it will fit, but you'll not get the true MM as you see it on the side of your lens.

Also.. I'm guessing there's maybe adapters they make as well? I haven't looked into that, but that's a possibility if available.

Given the a7r iv is 700 more, I think it is worth the cost for the extra features. What do you guys think?

I have both and I would go for a7R IV if you can afford it. Besides the obvious (61mp), you get better AF, better color science, etc. Theoretically A7 III has better low light (larger pixels) but it's not really noticeable. I do ASTRO with a7R iv and it works great.

That depends on what you shoot.. if you do landscape and subject matter where you need a crazy high amount of pixels than go for it... Otherwise for everything else you don't need to spend the extra cash.

I think 99.9% of people would be hard pressed to look at a photo off an a7iii and actually notice anything versus the higher priced model.

Most people will notice if you crop heavily, make a large print, or zoom in on the picture or view on an extremely high resolution screen. If you don't do these things, you will not notice. However, I don't think the percentage is quite at 99%.

The imaging circle of APS-C lens will not fully cover a full frame sensor, so that crop factor stuff does not apply. You will get the exact same view, only with fewer than stated MP as you will simply be using the APS-C sized area of your full frame sensor.
