It uses vslam which is camera mounted on top that see the ceiling. Does better when not dark. But doesn't have lidar or camera on front of vacuum to detect objects. This gen also doesn't have floor tracker either which helps with making the 1st or 2nd time more. Roborock or irobot are the top vacuums but twice the price for auto empty base
Features get removed from the app periodically, then readded again later but never truly improve the operation. You can't create "no-go" zones unless you use the stupid magnetic strips they include, you can't specify what power level for it to run at by schedule, and the map never truly resembles your home no matter what setting you turn your lights on for it to map via the ceiling tracking camera. Most recently they removed the status of mapping % completion from the app so you can't even tell how refined the map is as it cleans more and more over time. As soon as you press "this looks like my home" it locks in that last map revision.
In brief: I'd spend the money on a roomba with the self empty base if I had to do it all over again.
This is the first generation one which has terrible mapping etc. The newer second generation models have improved considerably. For the XL empty generation 2 models are AV1002AE AND AV1010AE. For the slightly smaller auto empty it has model RV1000S AND RV100S. These generation 2 models have a floor tracker which makes it able to map your area in 1 - 2 tries.

Kohls is missing on a huge opportunity to keep their prices *somewhat* competitive and throw Kohls Cash and Rewards on top as a benefit.
All in all, this is a decent deal. Buy it now if you are interested because it may not be much of a deal at Kohls in a few months.

Wow I'm having the same issues I thought it was just my unit. I have had mine for about 2 months and I literally have to remap it every couple weeks. I really wish they would update the app and make it a lot better
The good:
Vacuum performance was fine
Nice to be able to select rooms
The bad:
Map generation was not great
It got confused
It was not that gentle
Needs light to operate well
The base station sounds like a airplane taking off
My recommendation to anyone looking at a robotic vacuum is get lidar or don't bother. (including roomba) I have two roborocks now and they are fantastic. I do not have the emptying base. Honestly cleaning out the bin is not a big deal. We run ours when we go to bed and wake up to a vacuumed downstairs.
Final thought - this is not even a good deal. This is pretty much a standard deal. 20% off is common at Kohl's. 40% should be your target with kohls cash as well. Even so if it was me I'd get a roborock or something with lidar. For ref I paid about $329 + earned kc in 2019 also it's model # matches this one.
"Large cosmetic imperfection(s) on top, front or sides of item. Item will come repackaged."
Is this what yours said and it came in perfect condition!? Oh and is the coupon still available?? Thank you!

Yes that is the one. I saw another post saying that the used acceptable came from Amazon as new just missing box. I took the chance and assumed it would just be scratched and I couldn't even find a small one. All the plastic still on and roller brush was clean never ran. They had 20% off on slickdeals that amazpn runs from time to time to clear out warehouse deals
You aren't alone and their app development rate is awful. After a year plus with it, it's the same as day one when I bought it near black friday of 2019. I think I paid $330 for it then.
I got mine at Walmart it was priced wrong at 199 so I figured it's the best I can do for 200 bucks. Overall been happy but definitely the app and mapping needs alot of help.
