This is a remaster of a PS2 JRPG cult classic that has great reviews across the board on PS4. Never played it myself but this seems like a great price point (it doesn't go on sale that often), plus there's a demo so you can check it out. Made by enigmatic developer Vanillaware, who seem to release one excellent game per decade.

Huh, how does this stack up against Dragon's Crown? Absolutely love their aesthetic but this got no buzz so didn't know it even existed.

Well this is an old PS2 game that was remastered for the PS3 years ago, then given a resolution bump on the PS4 so it was not a "new" game. That being said, same dev as Dragon's Crown, gameplay is single player, not co-op like Dragon's Crown, and it's also considered to be the best Vanillaware game generally.

Visually and presentation wise, they're very similar. Gameplay wise, very different.

Odin Sphere, is more story driven and is a single player, side scrolling action RPG. It was a PS2 game originally as someone mentioned before but it ran horribly on the PS2 (I still loved it) with constant slowdowns. It runs much better on the PS4 but still suffers for slowdowns here and there.

Dragon's Crown is more of a beat-em-up and fun with friends/others, more akin to a dungeon crawler.

In my OP I called this a "JRPG" but apparently it's not really a JRPG at all and is a story-based, side-scrolling beat em up.
