Plus 12.9 is thicker in this gen for the mini led. Much heavier than 11 too

Just purchased the MacBook Air that was recently on sale. Haven't opened it yet, and considering this. Has anyone used an iPad to replace a MacBook? I would get the keyboard also.

Nope, especially if you consider additional $100 off. The 2020 Pro models never got a significant discount (except for Apple's education deal with free AirPod) until close to this new release. Also global chip shortage won't help with the supply either.
