clearly this is the best drone i have owned (i currently have more than 5) and it is because of the 6k camera. so you want the evo 2 pro model not the evo 2 8k. the videos that i produce are amazing and for that reason alone, i recommend it. not for the newbie but for someone who wants an awesome drone but does not want dji. this is not a tracking drone like the skydio, you don't use googles like the dji fpv, and this isn't a sub-250 that you can pack around town and fly "unregistered." it's in a class by itself. and you can get it at best buy for $1199 if you want to skip all the unnecessary at-time-of-purchase stuff: https://www.bestbuy.com/site/aute...Id=6409620

things you should know:
1.you won't need extra propellers; they don't need to be changed out unless you crash. i'm over a year and i have never had to change props until they went to the next design. don't pay for a bunch of extra props you won't ever use.
2.batteries are expensive but never pay more than $150.
3.there is a smart controller nearly ready to launch for the evo 2; it's expensive.
4.autel care (similar to dji care refresh) is available but it's expensive.
5.don't let the orange color fool you; this drone is absolutely beautiful.
6.finally, all drones have issues whether it's dji, skydio, or autel. i've had them all for the last couple of years and none are worse than the next and for me, none have been so bad that i couldn't live with it. autel may not have a sw update every week but they are regular and they try to fix things, just like everyone else. you might read about a horror story or two but it's isolated. drones don't fly away and start up on their own, and they get easily confused or land in the water. drones as a technology is still pretty fresh, so please set your expectation.

Bought the 6k a month ago on the last sale, no problems at all flying. Do note the narrower FOV compared to other drones.

I fly almost everyday as my full-time job. Upgraded from Mavic 2 Pro to the Evo II 6k about two months ago. Pleased with the decision to leave DJI. Color grading the footage is a little different, and I haven't quite gotten the gimbal controls how I like them, but nothing that can't be fixed. Had P4pro and P3 before that, so I have a long history with DJI. If you read DJI forums you could come away thinking they fly away all the time on their own too. Take your time, read the manual, calibrate it properly before you fly and never ignore warnings. Also be sure to check your flight maps for restrictions in your area. The Evo is the best drone I've ever flown.

when i mentioned unnecessary, i'm saying you may not have to pay for a bundle to get more accessories at a good price. do the math, if the batteries is $150 or less than you're good. i just wouldn't pay the regular $210 per battery price. batteries are ok since they're all the same. in my opinion, three batteries in total is quite sufficient. i prefer to get things like cases and filters and charging hubs and microsd card separately on my own (i.e. unnecessary to let someone else pick them for you in a bundle).

imo, extra props are totally unnecessary. if you crash, it's unlikely you will need to replace the props only. the only reason why you might need an extra prop or two is if you accidently break it while handling or you smash it in the case when closing....or you land in the weeds or brush when you should be landing on a pad or flat open area because you are not ready to hand land/launch. in that case, one or two....but a handful or a bunch of extra props....don't pay for that.

What do you use for editing video footage ? I'm more of a photographer so I use LR and Photoshop for my stills editing and have never dabbled into video aspect of editing.

i recommend free davinci resolve, i think they are on version 17. it's so good that you can dive into it as a beginner and it is good enough for most of your skills regardless how good you get.

I do quite a bit of survey work for timber companies, as well as commercial work for large scale construction projects. Some days I'm way out in the woods, other days I'm in the middle of downtown. I love my job Smilie

Sorry I didn't reply sooner. I use a combination of software. Mostly Final Cut Pro for the final assembly. I use the studio version of Davinci for all color grading work, as well as noise reduction, sharpening etc... If you're new to editing, FCP is by far the simplest to learn. If you have access to a Mac, iMovie is a good way to get your feet wet.

How well does the 1/2" sensor on this do with low light? I noticed a nice improvement between the Air 2 vs 2s' 1" sensor. Glad to see some competition for DJI and the prices come down on Autel. Was almost considering a Poweregg X, those are neat and have a waterproof package.

On the topic of flyaways...

I'm an old school RC helicopter pilot, we're the only thing smart on those was a gyro for the tail rotor. I've played around with the sub 250g drones. I can fly them in high wind because I can manually recover and fly the Drone back. Without that skill set I would have certainly lost some of them because the auto controls were inadequate.

My question here is can you manually take over and have full manual control of this drone?
