For that matter how about the a8h that is 1799 through verde appendage since they are the same tier (and the a9g has the same picture quality as the a8h anyway). I'm sure the HDMI 2.1 and later processor count for something but 700 worth?

This is gets brighter (than any OLED ever) and has better sound quality. The processor is updated too for better upscaling. Plus HDMI 2.1. I have the A9G and I'll stick with it, but if you're choosing between the 2, I would go with this model if the price isn't too much.
It should be a better set
According to some sources the A80H( this TV's predecessor) was identical to the A9G with the black frame insertion functionality added
So..I cant imagine this TV is not going to be better than its predecessor
Better processor. Maybe a bit brighter but it's not as bright as the A90J high end model. Adds HDMI 2.1. Not sure if it is worth 700 more than the A8H for the 65" if you are buying right now but if you are willing to wait the price will come down further to compete with LG G1 and C1. Personally I would rather have a Sony as I think they have the better processing, especially for motion. This has the same XR processor as the top of the line A90J model with the only difference being that it lacks the heat sink that allows more brightness. Also is available in a 77 size that the A90J is not. Should be a very popular model. Rumors that Costco US will carry it too which would be awesome!

Wow that would be great if Cisco has it. Where did you hear that?
I have the g8 Sony and got the newer model lg cx ended up returning the cx. Sony is way better for movies and shows. the model I have I got on Amazon for 1500 for 65 inch and is 2018. IMO
A9G is Sony Master series, bested by the Sony A90J.
Unless you need hdmi 2.1 then no point in upgrading from the A9G as it's an excellent tv and I mean one of the Best ever released with excellent motion and colors referenced from professional films.

They had it on the shelf at Costco in Sterling VA last week for $2499.99 Item 9865080[costco.com]. Their model # is XR65A80CJ. Includes 3 Year Allstate Protection Plan Bundle ($100 value)
Is this legit for the 77 inch? $3498 on Amazon from Seller Video & Audio Center. This company is listed as an Authorized Seller on Sony's site but I've never heard of them.

A9g is also 2 years old. So there is not much diff between h and g in that sense. They never came out with 77 inch A8h due to Covid.
