looks like a decent priced kit. Anyone has comments on the Makita quality? Never has this brand before

Makita is in the same class as Milwaukee and DeWalt basically. They all 3 have tools that are better/worse than other major brands - like a drill from Makita may be the best of the 3 but maybe the Milwaukee saw is better for example.

Most people are locked into 1 system though. I'm a huge fan of Makita sub-compact tools for the size and weight but much more power than a 12v system.

The details are in the post. Also, search any old HD tool deals and read the comments for additional info.

They are pro grade tools, in the US every pro is about milwaukee or dewalt but in Europe and Asia it's all about makita. On it's own this is a great deal from a great brand, and it's even better since makita rarely does promos since they're more focused on corporate accounts rather than individual homeowners/contractors

Nice deal...been looking for a router. This brings the router to $76...not sure if I have ever seen it below $100 on sale!

My coworker just got into their line of tools, so like any true Slickdealer, I've been shopping for him. They had a killer deal on their beast of a circular saw: the saw, 2 batteries, a charger, plus 2 free extra batteries for $249. Screamin' deal! I went over this with him at least 3 times, showed him the website several times, and he goes and buys it in store, without the 2 free batteries. I then tell him, "hey, it's ok, just order the promo kit and return the new saw with your older reciept, no harm no foul". He says no, he's going to go to HD and ask them for the 2 extra batteries, which I said won't happen. See him next week, tells me how HD wouldn't honor the batteries, as I'd indicated. Jump online again and that deal is sold out.

Sorry for the rant, but the moral of my story is some folks just aren't cut out for the Slickdeals life.

Been using Makita for at least 10 years. All my tools still work great and becouse they are not constantly bought and sold like most brands batteries have stayed the same. Decent power and seem to hold up really well. I think they are great. I recently bought an adapter to use the Makita batteries with Ryobi tools to take advantage of some of the decent deals on them. Not near the same level of quality but pretty decent, especially for the price.

I'm here because my Makita drill charger just died. I assume the drill is ok but as the unit is 25 years old I'm just going to replace everything.

I know nothing about power tools. Does it make sense to get this concrete hammer drill when for the most part I'm using it as an electric screwdriver? In 25 years I only rarely needed to drill into anything that wasn't a stud behind drywall. I mean - it can be used as a drill right? Or should I just get something less expensive. This is the drill I'm able to get for 50% off.

EDIT - Looks like this is probably better for my purposes.

in order for it work you have to add the starter pack first and then add the bonus tool. This way they will appear in the cart as 2 different items, with the individual prices. If you select the product with them already combined it goes into your cart as a single purchase for the total amount. then you can't separate for the return.

This is how you do it properly.

0. Decide which item you want to keep.
1. Add both to the cart. It should show you the pro-rated price for both.
2. For the item you want to keep, do ship to home, or ship to store pick up.
3. For the item you want to return, if you did ship to home for step #2, choose ship to store pick up. If you did ship to store for step #2, choose ship to store to another store.
4. Wait for item in step #2 to arrive at your home, or at the store and go pick it up.
5. Once you have item on hand, call the store you shipped the item in step #3, and tell them you want to cancel the pick up.

The reason you have to do it this way is that on the receipt, it shows the 2 items as 2 line items, with their pro-rated prices on them, and their return system will 100% allow you to return one item without any issues. The problem is some stores managers are instructing the return desk employees to not allow a "partial return" of a bundle. This is totally dependent on who is working, and how each individual store's management is handling these "hack" returns.

When you ship item #1 to home, and item #2 to store for pick up, the store only "sees" item #2 as an independent order, so they won't have any issues about canceling the pickup, without needing to go to return desk to show a receipt that shows 2 items that were part of a bundle.

Try again and have the one you want to keep shipped to the house and the want you don't set for store pickup. Go into the store and cancel or just don't pick it up and they cancel the charge after a week (maybe 10 days).
