To get to the island you need to pay for seaplane at $500-$700 per person

The catch is that unless you plan on packing ramen noodles and a water kettle in your suitcase,, expect to pay an arm and a leg for any food or drinks beyond included breakfast and happy hour.

The way this deal is structured pretty much makes it a no brainer to opt for the full board package, since it includes lunch, dinner, and the expensive transfers. Things are very expensive when you are trapped on a private island, full board is definitely the way to go.

so to summarize


- full board seems logical given the price/hassle of transfers, food, etc., so it's $1400, not $400
- it doesn't include flights, which from DC look to be at least a grand per person
- 5 nights is nothing for that long of a trip (if domestic US), $80/n night extra. something like two weeks seems appropriate

bringing the $399 deal to $4120 (for two)

I have no idea how this compares to a usual trip out there, this could still be slick, but the $399 resort stay definitely seems a bit headline-grabby

Looking at TripAdvisor, it looks like you get what you pay for with this deal. You get a resort under construction with mediocre food / service and a lousy beach. I certainly would not fly all the way to the other side of the world to stay here, but to each his own.

Americans that go to the Maldives for 5 days have an illegal purpose or cash and time does not matter. People are thinking too small. This Maldive deal of 5 days of sun is just a 5 days stop before I am on my way to Fuji for a few days of skiing with finishing off in the Philippines scuba diving. 5 days is just fine. Oh, Lovie, pass me my highball.

I was there November 2019. You can find much cheaper deals on Asian website other than here. Most of the websites has promotion for free local transfer. Maldives currency is different but they charge everything in dollars.

If you're considering Maldives and from the states, I recommend staying a night in Male, the island where the airport is located. You can find a decent business hotel for $150 USD/night and then have a bunch of different food options nearby. Give your body time to acclimate to the timezone change. Don't do that when you're paying $1000/day on the island. That's what my wife and I did on our trip in 2019. We had five nights as well and I wish we had more. Smilie

Is the hotel (or room) like in the middle of the water? I seen those photo that they have the hotel room right on the clean blue water that you can just walk out the door and jump into for a swim. Very nice place.

I follow someone on IG who recently went to the Maldives and you couldn't pay me to do that on coach flights. I'd rather go to Hawaii.
