Does Google Nest require a subscription for recording or is there a way to record on local storage?

That im aware of only through Nest subscription. If you manage to have to but it up on a monitor and look at the stream and have a software to record what's on that screen then yea, but besides that, that I can think of nope. Their subscription isn't bad though and covers the whole house. Also these cameras can even detect specific noise like glass breaking.

Subscription required, $60/year for clips or $120/year for 24/7 video.

Waiting for a long to see nest cam deal. In for 1. Have nest door bell and subscription so was waiting to add more cam. Yeah one subscription covers as many camera as you like which is not a bad deal.

I think the subscription also replaces cameras if they break.

Nest cam iq is discontinued now.
Google search shows there may be a new one coming later this year.
Thank You.

what price should one be expecting for the Nest IQ? The current list price on google store is $399 for one of the Outdoor IQ. I like the new options, but the IQ just doesn't seem to be adding enough to warrant the +2x price, so I'm curious if it will be getting a lot more affordable.

I just want to say these cameras are fantastic. I've had 2 for a few years now and I have no complaints. They have been exposed to the elements 24/7 and have withstood blizzards and 70 mph winds with no issue. There are cheaper options but I haven't been nearly as happy with them.

Interesting. Did you read why the newer outdoor models were discontinued?

I am invested in the Nest outdoor cam ecosystem (not comfortable with indoor cameras) and wanted to add one or two more outdoor units.

The newer design that had the power wire running through the base, forcing homeowners to drill a hole in the wall to mount it, prevented me from moving forward.

If your power goes out and/or your internet connection drops, do they still record?

They are marginally better but for that price I have concern to be locked into the google ecosystem even more. They can always pull the plug or change the susbription and you have no control.

No & no. These don't have a battery, so if the power is out, they're out. They require internet for their feed, so again, internet out, they're out.

They do not record but you will get a notification on your phone telling you when the Camera went offline.

It's still not slick. This 2 camera pack was on sale several times last couple of years for 238 with cash backs at Lowes etc. With new cameras coming out these should be less than 200 to be considered a slick deal
