The 13-inch MacBook Pro M1 with 512GB of storage is on sale for $1,300 right now — it's been discounted from $1,499 to $1,349, but an automatically applied coupon for $49.01 will bring it down to $1,300.
Wonder why these are being discounted so regularly
My guess is that they are not selling as much as they had expected. In reality, while there is hype around the M1 chip, very few people outside the prosumer/professional use would actually notice much difference (other than from getting a new machine with better SSD performance than the previous generations which will result in snappier app startup than on the older machine). The devices themselves haven't changed much otherwise to drive the upgrade cycle. Except the iMac that has a design evolution and so will likely have a significant upgrade cycle.
Costco has it for the $1299 and I believe you get a 2 yr warranty if you use your Costco visa.
I believe that's on top of the standard one year off Apple Care that comes with every new MacBook purchase. The credit card also covers accidental damage for 60 days after purchase.
sorry PC user here but was looking into buy one of these as a gift. i remember the older MBP you can open it open and install your own ram. did they change that with these new MBPs?

Those days are long gone, everything is soldered on all macbooks now. They're great machines but incredibly anti consumer, everything must go through apple so your basically renting it rather than owning it. But rant aside, if the person your buying for does content creation like photography, making videos or music production, mac's are a great choice.
