Will this do a 2x10 in one pass?
Nope, you'll never be able to cut stock the full diameter of the blade due to the presence of the arbor (the hole in the center of the blade). The best this one can do in one pass is 2x6.

Great deal. I don't know much about this brand, what tool brand would Metabo rank against? Like RIGID, DeWalt and Makita? Or Ryobi and Craftsman?
This unit appears to be 100% identical to the similarly priced Hitachi, which I own, and which is a great saw.

This saw has a lot of power but very inaccurate. Adjustments aren't easy to do. My Dewalt 12" slider easily weighs twice as much as this saw. This is a decent saw to have for framing out basements and sheds. I wouldn't use it for moldings or building furniture.

Metabo is Hitachi.

It's pro grade - prob above Ridgid but below Dewalt

Now if only the wood we cut with this would return to appropriate pricing.

That's why I'm trying to hustle-up on my room-divider project. 90% of the materials will be trim wood - about 2" x 1" x 8-feet. I took pictures of the prices at Menards back in early March and when I last looked at the prices 2 days ago, they have remained exactly the same. So I'm thinking the higher costs of lumber haven't yet trickled down to trim wood.

Metabo is pro grade, but this isn't Metabo.

This is Metabo HPT. The HPT stands for Hitachi Power Tools. When Hitachi was sold to KKR (who also owns Metabo), they kept making the same products, but couldn't keep the name so they changed it to Metabo HPT.

Metabo HPT is consumer level. Still pretty decent, but far from the quality of real Metabo.

Are you saying that because of the blade shipped with it, or does the saw armature swing down without precision and with irregularities?

No way I would pay $102 for this. Not too long ago it retailed for $89. You can still get the refurbs for this price.

4x4 post in one cut...

I just wanted to inform people that may be cutting 4x4's for fencing or whatever that a miter saw is INSANELY nice to have on hand. These type cannot do it but a 12" blade, especially a sliding one easily and safely can.

Dewalt's DWS779 has a perfect rating on Amazon and most other sites, is a top seller for years now and is very heavy duty for the price. If price is no issue for you and you want simply the best of the best then clearly this will not be for you, you will spend about double in price at least. For the rest of us sane people, this is an AMAZING saw. I think I got it closer to $320.. I don't recall but it was an excellent price either way and much cheaper than the competition. What you dont get with the saw is a shadow light and it does take up a few inches more of backspace but by not having these features, I saved $300.. seems 100% worth it to me.

Sliding miter saws in general also have a very impressive range of wide woods they can cut super easy and extremely clean. My only regret is not getting one sooner, they truly are very nice to have if you do a lot of DIY. For triple the price of this one, knowing what I know now, there's no way I would get one of these.. I would put it towards the better saw instead. I love it a lot.. so long as it doesnt cut my fingers off.

Keep in mind this isn't SLIDING so it's somewhat restricted in the size of materials that it can cut. Great deal though.

Things to look for on a miter saw:

- Sliding compound (I think this is a big deal. It means you can cut much wider material with a smaller saw)
- Dual bevel (can adjust the lean of the blade to the left or right, which is more convenient than flipping your boards around etc)
- Laser (not a huge deal, you can just tap the blade to the material before starting to ensure it's positioned right

12" saws are cool, they'll cut big stuff effortlessly. 10" is also very capable IF it's a sliding saw, and the saw is smaller and the blades are a bit cheaper too.

I have the Hitachi version and have been pretty happy with it for basic woodworking. I've been redoing the baseboards in my house, and also used it to cut 2x4, 1x3, and 1x2 for various projects along the way. I've had several projects come up where I wished I had a 12" or at least a sliding miter saw, but since I got it for $89 back in January 2019 it's been a steal for the price.
