The Westinghouse ones from Walmart are a few dollars more and are excellent, more reliable brand as well. I use four of them around my house as security lighting and they light up the area really well.

5k all the way. I've never once noticed my neighboor's lights, why would I, I stay inside after dark and if I go outside for something I'm not starring at their lights. Unless its pointing into your house or living room, I have no idea why people are hung up on this. I'd be perfectly fine if all my neighbors lit up my cul de sac so no one snoops around.

5,000K all the way for me. These are security lights for me. I want the area as bright as possible so I can see who I need to shoot. But I live on 11 acres so anyone on my land should not be there at night.

I bought five of these but they cost more. I liked the styling more for my house style.

I want a 3000k version too, so as not to annoy my neighbors.

The lowest I can find is ~$37 on Amazon.

5000k is pretty bright white for the outdoor use, but I'll give it a try for sure. Thanks.

All these new led lights must be cheaper when they are 5000k+. Seems like this light would be better 2700k-3000k, with the more yellow side of spectrum. Seems like bright motion sensor at 5000k during the light is likely to annoy neighbors.
i wouldnt worry about that so much as long as its not shining on their house and bedroom window.

Agree 100% with you and others. I had 2 5000k lights and replaced one unknowingly with 3000k down the line. It was an amazing difference on many fronts.

- Something about the bright white is piercing at night. Very unpleasant even to me the owner. Don't look up lest ye be blinded for the next few minutes.
- Something about the hue or spectrum of light these give off actually makes things below it appear more monochromatic which makes it harder to see. The one soft light I have isnt much brighter but its much easier to distinguish items in front of it.

Just a hunch, but perhaps this has something to do with how our brain / eyes respond to the pure white. The same amount of pure white may cause your pupils to contract more than similar lumen of soft light. Therefore making it harder to see in the low light conditions and making things outside of the lights range appear darker.

Similar to what makes you curse at the oncoming driver with their super-de-duper bright white (look at me, I don't care about anyone else) lights. Because it actually impairs your night vision and your eyes need to recuperate after they pass.

How hard is it to wire to the breaker box? or is it better to wire it to a plug and plug it in? It would be installed above the garage and the breaker box is in the garage.

Probably easier to hard wire to breaker box unless you have an outlet nearby.

I have a neighbor to annoy. This might be perfect.

Yes, except the middle one which may run into the sensor. I have this light. Really easy to set up and plenty bright. Maybe not quite as bright as the old style dual floodlights, but illuminates more evenly. The sensor adjustment is consistent with the range settings. I also like the 3 hour timer setting so it comes on at dusk and turns off in 3 hours. Then it just motion activates after that. Good light for the price.
I don't see the 3 hour timer option on this light. I see it has D2D option or motion with 1,3,10 min duration.

5000k is great for the garage or shop, looks terrible on a house.

Anyone know a comparable light that is 2700K? (i.e. warm white)
This one has 3 settings, down to 3000k. It's fairly cheapo, but I had a hard time finding anything that gets down to 2700. It's slightly larger than a standard round junction box, so probably better for flush mount, but mine is under an eave so I decided to live with it.
