It might work but I would think it would be more appropriate for a bedroom.

Keep in mind, you still need a receiver to power them.

I own this system and for anyone worried about their size don't be, these absolutely pump, great bass, great clarity. I paid 600 a few years ago, for 300 these are complete steal and they'll blow away any box surround system. You will need a receiver for them which is another 300ish give or take, but absolutely worth it. Klipsch makes a great product, there's a reason they have a good reputation

I would get something like Logitech z906 speakers. If you get these Klipsch, one added benefit is that you could place one speaker in each corner, but acoustics in a basement room filled with workout equipment isn't going to be the greatest.

Denon, Yamaha and others in the $280-$300 range, and they would certainly work with these, as well as older receivers. For me, I wanted to add a small receiver for my recent Vizio TV and just want to run optical from TV to receiver. With all of the inputs to TV and apps built-in, I don't need HDMI switching or ever listen to OTA radio! Asked my son if they even make a 5.1 amp-only that suits my purpose - Ha.

Not trying to thread crap, but check out the monoprice premium 5.1 system. I got one for $150 (currently $180) and am very pleased with it.

The only reason you would NEED a new one is for a feature a slightly older did not have.

You only need five channels and a benefit with Klipsch, they are pretty easy to power so you do not need any fancy one.

Someone mentioned they bought one at Goodwill for $10.

That of course would be complete shot in the dark but on offerup, around here you could get a decent name brand for $70. One with many newer features for around $100.

Receivers are often very costly. It depends on what you're trying to do. If you need to pass the latest version of hdmi through it, it's going to be more expensive. Add the latest atmos features and 9.2 etc, you're going to run pretty costly. For this 5.1 though, you can get an older receiver. Like I said, mine was $10 used (you have to hunt for something like that thought). I use the optical out on my TV, so it sends 5.1. I don't send the receiver any hdmi because it's an older version.

Just going to put this out there, IMO you can get a much nicer sound out of Dayton speakers from parts express. Sound is a highly subjective topic though, so ymmv. I like the Daytons better. The sub is backordered if you don't mind waiting. $268.43 before tax at the time of this writing.

Just such your local craigslist for a Logitech Z-5500 (Z5500). Make sure it's less than $100. Not required, but if you need a Bluetooth connection just seach slickdeals for 1Mii.

They use to have a good reputation,,,I dunno know now, last time I was in Best Buy I listened
to some Klipsch and I thought they were awful (speakers) nothing like the ones I heard in the 70's and 80's
