Yeah. My sister is going in august. Luckily the airfare was free because they are paying $170 a day for a Turo car.

There is a national car rental shortage and this is one of the most popular places. I've been trying for a month to get a car, but they're all sold out. They are trying to get more.

I didnt know kayak did cars. $45 a day plus all the dumb fees in the middle of September it seems. That's not too bad.

September is outside the summer rush so you should be fine.

Car rental companies sold off their fleets to stay afloat during the shutdown. Once things opened up, they couldn't purchase new cars since factories weren't making as many cars. Even now, there is a global semiconductor chip shortage, and since modern cars are high-tech, there is an overall new vehicle supply shortage. Basically, demand is higher than supply, thus, rates are sky-high.

Note that Glacier is doing ticketed entry this year to try to manage traffic. So that's another thing you'll want to make sure you can secure before booking a flight.

Also, I don't know if it's still going on this year or not but the section(s) of road on tribal land were closed due to COVID last year and it severely impacted access to a lot of popular trailheads. I'd want to make sure that wasn't an issue again before I go back, even though the areas that were open were beautiful.

If you cant find a rental car, call the Toyota dealership in Kalispell. They have been renting out their cars due to the shortage

Second this, plus try the local rental places. All the airport rentals are sold out but the local rentals give you larger SUVs, 4wd, etc. for cheaper.
