After reading all the discussions about ram amount, I'm just curious how many browser tabs people keep open at a time during a typical day.

The ones who have actually used them personally say 8 is enough for most people.

Another very expensive problem with today's Apple. Prior to 2016, you could buy a computer and later upgrade it by adding more RAM or storage later once your needs change. My daily driver is a mid 2012 MBPro. I've doubled the RAM and added a SSD over the years.

Now, everything is soldered, so upgrades are impossible. To get 16 or 32 MB of RAM or a bigger SSD, you need to pay 3 times the price up front of what upgrades would cost for the same configuration, even if you don't realize the need now.

No thanks, Apple.

I don't know, I don't use iCloud. I refuse to risk someone hacking into iCloud and getting all my bank and investment passwords. Mine are stored locally on an encrypted disk with an encrypted Time Machine backup.

I legit think people are in here to just kick tires and look smart. If I was legit dedicated and "in it to win it"....I'm not getting this model of a mac mini. There's other models for the more "hardcore" user. a Mac Mini is for a casual user...a person who needs to put in SOME work...a person whose job even has applications that fully support the M1 chip.

It's not for what some folks are hemming and hawing about. Please stop the madness - I'm goign to buy this (unless something happens) as I know what I want out of this. If I were deep diving I'd stick with my loaded MBP, which will be for "work" purposes. This is a pleasure machine and mac minis have ALWAYS been for pleasure first as those who need it for heavy design or development have other models for such.

You can try for a PM on 5/19 when it is on sale on Costco.com. The price isn't live yet. But if you know someone at Costco and can buy this for you, you get a 2 year warranty. 4 years if you use a Citi Costco credit card.

Clearly not the most tech savvy so here goes,

Nowadays is it relatively easy to put this thing alongside a pc and configure it so i can just simply boot into windows or macos at any given time using single monitor connected by both?

Yes, but more often people will choose one as the base "host" operating system and run the other in as a "vitual machine" using hypervisor software such as Parallels, VirtualBox, VMWare or Hyper-V. Google those, and you'll see why it's easier. This way you avoid partitioning the hard drive and complex bootloader configuration that can break when you do OS upgrades.

Very easy. Just get a monitor with two HDMI inputs and switch between the two. Or, if you already have a monitor, get an inexpensive A-B HDMI switch. You can then select whether the Mac or the PC is inputing to the monitor.
