You'll also save $20 when you buy a compatible motherboard with the processor.
What are you talking about? It's way cheaper than scalper ebay.. It's also cheaper than MSRP.
First, amazing that they are in stock to begin with, and then to have them actually discounted over the regular price? That's a great deal!

Man, Intel can't give away their new chips. Nice price on the 5600X - I'd be all over it if I had a MC near to me.

I've been debating going with a 5900x just to future proof since I upgrade my PC so rarely, but it might be hard to beat the 5600x for $260 after the motherboard discount.

If it's a B450 class, you should check with your MB Mfr for possible upgraded firmware. I'm running a 2600 and the (3 year old) MB firmware got a bump to allow 5xxx support in February.

I'm in a similar boat, but I'm planning on doing more than just gaming so I've been leaning toward the 5900.

I was going to go grab processor and motherboard from Microcenter but I have no idea when I'll be able to get a decent video card (I have a GT640 in my old PC) and I don't want to have a mobo and processor just sitting around. (I probably sound like everyone wanting to build a pc right now.)

if you're near a microcenter, then there should be a good chance for you to get one. MC appears to be marking up their gpus unfortunately, but i don't think it's anywhere near as bad as scalpers on ebay. join the unofficial microcenter chat on discord (your local MC), and ask around on what popular shipment days are, how the inventory has been, etc.

i generally recommend waiting to get the GPU first, since the downsides of buying the other components first and having them sit around are:

1. you'll lose the return window (especially if they're defective and you haven't had a chance to test them)
2. they might be more discounted in the future
3. new components may pop up before you get to use them (DDR5, for example)

especially for gamers, i recommend either acquiring a gpu first or buying a prebuilt at a good price.

however, if you need to do cpu-intensive tasks now, then you can plug in your gt640 for now and do what you need to do while waiting for a gpu.

I would also agree that if you NEED a new GPU then getting that first makes sense. Especially since CPU stock seems to be holding steady. My GPU (GTX 1080) is much newer than the rest of my components (FX-8300 & 8GB DDR3) so I'll be holding onto my GPU for now and will just upgrade it when it's much easier to do so.

I'm mostly working and not gaming on my PC now, nothing that needs 12 cores, but I probably won't upgrade again for 4-5 years which is why I'm thinking about going big now.

How to compare 11400. 11400 is much cheaper.
