I bought this Dethatcher when it was on sale at amazon for $ 119.00 and and very happy with the result. Now we have the most beautiful green lawn in our neighborhood.
1st pic - shows the dead grass we got out. It filled the whole bin.
2nd pic - is the lawn after detaching and reseeding.
3rd pic - is the final result after 4 weeks and watering 2 times a day.

Thatch is largely caused by a lack of microbial activity in the soil that cannot break down the thatch quick enough. Using a machine won't help that. You need to build up the soil microbes and keep them well fed. Throwing down a thin layer of compost will help rid the thatch and introduce/add soil microbes. After that keep them well fed by mulch mowing and fertilizing with organic fertilizer. That includes but is not limited to Milorganite (if it's available in your area), soybean meal, cracked corn, alfalfa pellets, mulching mowing leaves in the spring etc. Keep chemical fertilizers and insect killing chemicals to a minimum.
No, my lawn is a shit show, I've done everything from fertilizers, to over seeding, to cutting down a tree I thought might be blocking sun in the last two years. I can honestly say that now 3 days after using this dethatcher that my front lawn looks the best it has in my tenure here! The backyard, we'll that's a whole other story hahaha but I'll start working on that this weekend.
Same as you. Bought this from Amazon for $87 in March, used it and couldn't believe how many bags of thatch I got out. Lawn looked brown after that but just weeks later islets the fullest and greenest it's ever been. Looking forward to dethatching again this fall and over seeding.
A few tips
1. Get the sun joe instead. Its better and often on sale for $120.
2. Use the scarcifier attachment vs the dethatcher
3. Prior to dethatching or immediately aftee dethatching put your favorite weed preventer down. If you have weeds dethatching will spread weeds all over. If you dont it still makes your lawn susceptible to dethatching.
4. Dont over do it, some thatch is good, too much is bad
5. Mow over your lawn several times on the highesr setting its way easier than raking all that thatch or dealing with the tiny collector
6. After dethatching use a liquid aeration mechanical. Yes liquid works, after you dethatch liquid is optimal. Unless you're going to immediately over seed, then only use mechanical.
7. You literally just ripped your lawn a new one. You must stay on top of maintaining it after dethatching. Mow on the highest height without your bag on heading into summer. Then adjust to 3".
Some comments state no adjustable height, some say you pull the center knob out of the wheel to adjust the height. On the actual green works website there's a question re: the difference between old and new model, and they make no mention of taking out the adjustable height feature. Can anyone with this specific model comment on trying to adjust height by pulling the wheel's center knobs out?

I use dethatcher pretty often, and not the scarifier for lawn as my lawn seems ok without it. However I used scarifier to loosen up the top soil upto 2 inches before planting seeds this spring.. had seen someone doing it with scarifier attachment (as a light tiller) so followed the same idea and results were pretty good for what I needed for... Hope this helps

Either will work to dethatch to varying degree's depending on how often your lawn has been dethatched. I just go right to the scarifier at the middle setting and it appears to dethatch in a similar fashion that a pro model does from the rental place. My lawn hadn't been dethatched in what I am guessing is ever LOL prior to me buying the house. I will probably use the scarifier again in the fall. Next yr try just the dethatch attachment.

Nvm. Per manufacturer reply on that website: "Our older versions of 27022 provides 3-Position tine depth adjustment. The newer version is set to a single fixed tine depth at 3/8" (9 mm). We are always happy to clarify any details that are unclear."

What does the scarcifier attachment do that the dethatching one doesn't? Why is that preferred if I need to dethatch my lawn? Don't know anything about it. Thanks!

Also as stated in the post, greenworks didn't honor orders in the previous deal and it was a bait and switch.
