Is there any android app that can be put on an old tablet for a similar effect? I get that I'm not going to get humidity in the room, but date time and weather would be nice.

And the reviews largely support it as being junk.... I am in the market for similar. Our LaCrosse, also made in China, lasted for about 10 years, but just gave up the ghost.

I don't know of one off the top of my head but I'm pretty sure you can install mutliple apps and use widgets from each app to get it exactly how you want

I received as a gift (and couldn't return) and I would not spend money on this unit. Very unreliable especially if you keep the outside monitor outside.

The AccuWeather app or Weather Underground should work in a similar fashion on an Android tablet or phone, especially using the app's widget on the main screen of the launcher.
