You can also just plug a usb into your base and use local storage. Avoiding the cloud fee program. Took me less than 5 minutes to setup.

Free cloud storage went away back in 2020. If you already have an existing system you can add these cameras to an existing account and continue to get free storage. If you have never had an account you will have to pay for cloud storage. It's $5 per camera a month or $100 for up to ten cameras if you pay an entire year upfront.
They should give you free Cloud Storage if you have an Amazon Prime account, already pay a fortune for that now they want to charge additional for cloud storage?

This doesn't seem correct according to the support page. For older Blink devices it looks like you get two hours of cloud still.

"XT2, XT, and Indoor (gen 1) cameras attached to a Sync Module 2 system do not have clips saved to the USB drive. These cameras do not require a subscription plan and continue to use their 7200 seconds per Sync Module of basic cloud storage.
That part you referenced is under "Existing Account Storage." First sentence before what you posted says:
Accounts that were created on or before April 15, 2020 continue to have the original 7200 seconds per Sync Module of basic cloud storage.

Adding more from the Blink website to hopefully clear it up.

How does the subscription plan work?
Because subscription services are cloud-based, we can continue to develop features that enhance your security and your lifestyle. Click here to view the latest subscription details and options.

Do I get a free trial of the subscription plan?
When you create a new account after April 15, 2020, and set up your Blink Outdoor, Indoor (2nd Generation), or Mini camera, you automatically begin a free trial of the Blink Plus Plan subscription.

What does the subscription plan include?
Your subscription plan lets you save motion clips and Live View sessions on our secure servers then access them from the Blink mobile app. Additional camera features and extended warranty are also provided. Learn more here about our subscription plan offerings and additional benefits.

What if I don't want to subscribe to the subscription plan or use local storage?
Without a subscription plan or free trial, your Blink system can only send motion alerts that connect you to that camera's Live View in the Blink App. Accounts that were created before April 15, 2020, can use their existing cloud storage as normal with newer cameras, but some features are only available with a subscription (or free trial subscription).

How does local storage work?
You can purchase a new system that includes the Blink Sync Module 2 and insert a USB flash drive (sold separately) to allow a once-daily backup of clips in cloud storage. Clip backups do not appear in the Blink app. You must eject the USB drive from the Sync Module 2 and view the clips on your computer. To purchase, visit here.

They bait and switched everyone. I was sold partially on the premise of free cloud storage. 6 months later "Your trial is coming to an end!". It was never positioned as a trial at time of purchase. Assholes.

Last time I check Amazon page about a month back, they still listed free 1 year cloud storage for xt2. Not sure what is that all about. Misrepresentation

The fee based cloud storage is my issue with all of the cameras I've seen. Does anyone know of an outdoor camera system that allows you to view local storage from an app?

This is only true for new blink camera (3rd gen). For XT2 and XT everyone get free basic storage for lifetime even if you sign up for an account today.

Reolink systems do, that is what I have, I have the Reolink RLN8-410-E system and have 8 of the 5MP cameras on it, it works awesome and has a local NVR that comes with a 1tb drive preinstalled but I upgraded to a 4tb drive and have never had any issues. Works with Android, iOS, Windows and Mac OS'es. While it is not a wireless system, it is POE and only requires the CAT5/CAT^ single cable for audio/video/power. Took me about 2 hours to run all 8 cables and have never had to touch it since

Eufy, arlo, or riolink for wireless cameras. These cloud based storage solutions are all eventually going to cost you money, have security issues, and be unreliable.

Buy a POE system, run the wire, setup your system, and don't be held hostage by your security system.

I ordered two and will add them to my existing XT2 system. I have free cloud storage, so I guess this works.
Not sure if 2 used XT2 is a good price.

Yes but It is extremely gimped. I have a 256 gb USB and the minute my trial expired the app becomes awful. You lose a lot of features and they make it to where accessing videos takes a much longer time over usb. The app became almost miserable to use and I'm pretty sure it doesn't wipe over itself like many dashcams and other camera systems do so you have to manually format it on a computer once it is full.

I can tell you you're wrong based on experience rather than back and forth interpretation of the Blink website. XT and XT2 cameras currently have free cloud storage regardless of when the account was created.

Anyone with XT or XT2 cameras can also confirm by temporarily removing their system from their account and attaching them to a new account. There will be instant free cloud storage with no 30 day trial necessary.

I have XT2 outdoor and free trial ends soon. Other option is to plug usb in it and you are good. On the other hand if you are planning to use it next to a busy or semi busy road its just a disaster. All inactive zones dont work ,no matter how you set it up it still pick all shit that is happening at those zones. Also it picked a neighbor dog shittin on my lown only when that bustard done shitting and was walking away

You are wrong. From blink website---If your account was created on or before April 15th, 2020, you will continue to have access to 7200s (2 hours) of free cloud storage and other features for any devices set up in your account and will not receive a free trial. Click here to learn more.

As far as i can read, the USB external storage will only work with the Sync Module 2 and nothing else, im sure they can have a firmware update that will allow USB storage since it already has the USB poirt built-in, but they probably wont do that so they can charge more $$$ to use it

Isn't there a way to configure local storage via USB on the base?

This seems like great advice. Please elaborate.
