Yes. As soon as your account is active, you'll go into Auto-Renew, which you just disable. That means you'll have an active account and be able play all games until the expiration date and will not be charged. That's what I always do with Game Pass.

Update 5/25. Someone told me to try again, and indeed it did work for a buck.
This is how it works:
-Let your gamepass expire.
-Buy some cheap Xbox live 12 month cards. I bought Brazil ones and redeemed via VPN(it works).
Redeem 36months max of Xbox live
Sign on and see the advertisement for gamepass. Click on it, but this time you won't pay $1, you have to pay 14.99. Once you convert it over, it will show gamepass at three years until expired. You will pay 14.99 once to convert it. I spent about $128 for 3 years of live and converting to gamepass.
