You and me both. Quicken is certainly not perfect but it seems every alternative is significantly worse.

Thanks! Just ordered for store pickup- my subscription expired earlier this month and I was waiting for a deal. Frustrated that the 2-year subscriptions don't exist anymore because I don't want to mess around every year looking for a decent price. May need to look for alternatives.

Thanks OP! I ordered for local pickup for my folks, I'm sure it'll work just like last time.

I share your feelings. I've tried some alternatives and I keep coming back to Quicken - or rather, never leaving, but running parallel for a while with two tools. I miss the buy it every 2-3yrs model vs the annual subscription.

I renewed my subscription this Feb via a code from OfficeDepot/Max, and by setting auto-renewal, I got an extra month from Quicken. I then went into my profile on Quicken.com can cancelled auto-renewal, and set a reminder to re-enabled my SlickDeals search next January so I can buy another code at a discount. It's annoying but it's very low effort so I'll keep doing it as I can't find a software I prefer...

How long the activation code is valid? Just renewed and don't want the code to expire if purchase today.

FYI I have been keeping my eye on this for a while. The price seems to fluctuate between full price and discounted price regularly, and all retailers follow.

I was able to find someone selling a legit code on eBay for $21 that worked for my renewal. YMMV of course.

Similar to allup's question, how does this work for renewals of an existing subscription? Do you have to authenticate using your current Quicken Account credentials before being able to purchase? Or does the purchase just provide a code that you enter under your existing Quicken Account, and if so, how soon after purchase do you need to enter that code?

I ask because I have seven months left on my current Quicken subscription (so just over the six-month early renewal window that Quicken allows), but I don't often see deals for Quicken renewals. I'd consider jumping on this deal to renew my subscription early, but I'm not sure if I would be able to do so.

Just picked this up - Office Depot is on 15% cash back right now for "Big Give Week" through the cash back service that begins with an Rak that was auto blocked when I posted this. That extra bonus brings the effective price down to $26 and change.

Have you looked into the Money in Excel template that's included with Office 365?

I got a code last September that I entered to renew in April of this year with no problem. On the Mac version, there is an "Enter Activation Code" option in the Quicken menu. Pretty sure I just typed it in there.

You should be fine as long as you don't get one of the "New Subscribers Only" packages.

Awesome, thank you for that information. I may bite on this, then.

Separately, in response to DealBlues's comment about the Money in Excel add-in that's part of Office 365, I did play around with that a bit, but wasn't impressed. It would work for pretty basic money tracking and budgeting, I suppose, but it seemed a bit like a "kludge" rather than a full-featured application. Who knows, though, perhaps Microsoft will improve it over time.

20 year user. I currently have premier version but considering dropping down to deluxe. I have multiple investment accounts and do some stock trading but uncertain if deluxe will meet my needs. The description between the two versions isn't clear on what functionality I will lose. I don't think I can pay the difference between deluxe and premier if deluxe doesn't work for me.

How is deluxe for your needs?

I am in the exact same boat as you. The main functionality that you will be losing is not being able to run reports that list capital gains and interest/dividends similar which are in similar format to the tax schedules you would file with your tax return. They are nice to have but I don't rely on them to file my taxes, so not a big deal for me. There is also a tax planning module that only comes with premier - it has been buggy, so again, not a big deal for me.
I am not aware of anything else. Perhaps someone else can chime in.
