You and me both. Quicken is certainly not perfect but it seems every alternative is significantly worse.

I think I understand, but just to clarify . . . (still working on first cup of coffee, Blue Bottle Hayes Valley, but drip, not espresso) . . .

So, if I don't use the Quicken function to download information from financial institutions, after the one year subscription expires all the other functions still work and I can still use Quicken for everything else, all the other normal functionality?

Does anyone know how long I can continue to use Quicken this way?

I think I have read that after three months or so from when the subscription expires they put up an obnoxious permanent banner that blocks half the screen to get people to renew their subscription. Is this true?

Thanks!
I believe banner still pops up each time.

Also, no longer ability to import transactions from one's own files. You will have to manually key in data.

Thanks for responding.

I don't mind keying in my own data, I've been doing that for 30 years. Smilie Some of us don't need to download transactions nor import from files. So it's disappointing, although not surprising, that they put that banner there to try to get us to renew when we don't need that added functionality.

I'm not sure what happens if you do not ever shut down the application. Maybe the banner will only popup one time during startup.

I did not renew right away waiting for a sale. I do remember the banner.

This is a great use of ink recycling dollars if you have any.

What is the benefit for annual subscription? I never used this before and thinking of using it to manage my rentals. I wouldn't think a finance software like this would need annual updates. Does it block you from using it the year after it ends?

Personal Capital has repeated issues they take forever to resolve. One of my brokers hasn't updated in over a month.
Be careful to separate the Personal Capital App from the brokerage service. The app is free to use for anyone.

My Quicken Deluxe subscription expires in Sept 2021, and I may purchase this as a renewal.

I first used Quicken DOS over 25 years ago so my file is quite large, over 110 million bytes. I've been testing GNUcash as an alternative to Quicken. GNUcash is free. Much to my surprise, GNUCash was able to import the Quicken QIF export. Account totals matched as well as the number of shares in my investment accounts. In the conversion there were two minor issues that were easily fixed in Quicken and was able to re-import the qif file. The current GNUcash importer is the best that I've seen.

So if I buy the non download version, when my current subscription expires I can use it to renew. Current one expires 04/2022.

Never said anything about it being free or paid. The service, the one the OP was referring to has repeated and long standing problems updating. Nobody's talking about a brokerage service

Been using 2017 without issue since. 2017 was the last year before they became greedy pigs. I have to enter everything manually, but I was doing that for everything but investments before anyway. There's an occasional quick popup nag to downgrade, oops, I mean "upgrade" every once in awhile. Close and move on

I bought the download version from Staples; however, when I tried to activate my current subscription it won't accept it as it's for new subscribers only. Does anyone know a work-around for this?

Thank you.

Based on OP post, seems like digital version only works with new subs. You should try to return and replace with Staples ASAP. Just call their CS, Staples is usually pretty good with their CS.
