Anyone got any experience with this?
I bought the 40v a couple months ago but it's still sitting unopened in my garage. It's the only 40v tool I own and not sure I want to get into another battery system if the 18v will do the job.

It works if you have soft, loose dirt to go through. Of course, if you have soft, loose dirt just get a post-hole digger [homedepot.com], which will be much faster! I have sandy, loam soil that is pretty compressed (old cattle farm before they built houses on it) and this thing was worthless. I never tried the 40v version though. Good luck!

Interesting… We're planning to move our fence on both sides of the house and I hate digging posts by hand in this mostly clay-like Texas soil. I highly doubt the 18V would have enough power to go through it. 40V maybe, but still doubt even that…

The 40v claims it has 30% more torque than a gas powered auger. I've never used a gas powered auger to compare. But the 40v plows through the clay rocky soil I have. I have over 25 Ryobi tools, and the 40v auger is my favorite Ryobi tool.

This is what I was thinking. The 18v would probably get stuck in it's tracks

Much like my 18v brushless trimmer it prob does a serviceable job for about 20m on a 4ah battery. It takes about 5 batteries to do any real clean up w the blower attachment but this is fine as I have a boat load of batteries.

Harbour freight one has worked great for years and taken abuse..

May have to look at the 40v version..

Am I reading this right? It has a 6-inch auger bit? My drill can do a better job than that
6 inch diameter hole in the ground. We're talking girth when it's about plowing some earth

If nothing else it might make a good mud or thinset/quickset mixer
