The new one is coming tomorrow maybe that's why this is at a great price. The only missing feature is airplay which the new one has. But for someone who has a Roku tv, this is a great deal since you can control both with a single remote.

In my opinion, the sound is better than most TVs have built in but not as good as the vizio soundbar I replaced with this. I had a roku ultra and vizio soundbar previously and in addition to the sound being better, the ultra is faster. This soundbar seems dog slow in comparison. Very delayed between clicks. Slow to load things, etc. Conversely, I had an airbnb rental recently that had the exact same soundbar and it was really snappy and responsive. Maybe something wrong with mine. Good luck if you decide to buy.

One other incidental note - a few weeks into owning mine it was obvious the wifi remote wasn't working anymore and it was relying on the line of sight infrared remote. This was easily confirmed by pairing up an old remote and it worked fine. I submitted a ticket to roku and they didn't even ask any questions - just had a new remote in my mailbox a few days later.
I'm taking a hard pass.

Roku avoiding Ethernet and trying to force everything to WiFi is very off-putting to me. I understand radio spectrum, and if you live on the second floor of a three story "bee colony" apartment complex with other apartments in every direction the air is saturated. Being able to use a cable makes all the difference in the world for video content.

This is the reason the studios are filtering lower bass frequencies

I've noticed setting up a roku stick that with poor wifi signal the interface is very laggy. Moved the wifi router closer and the interface responded much faster afterward.

There is a lot of misinformation in this thread.

The new Roku Streambar Pro ($179) releasing soon is replacing the Roku Smart Soundbar ($179). This is the non-pro version of the Streambar (normally $130) and goes for this price frequently. Not a great deal.

Is the soundbar aspect of this device decent quality?

I tried it inside. It's decent. I really need to try it outdoors.

The pro doesn't have an Ethernet jack either.

But it DOES have a USB port that might be usable.

I've had this for about 6 months on a bedroom TV. It's perfect for that use. It sounds great for what it is and can have the subwoofer added later if you want. I'd get the larger one for a bigger room though.

Agreed this is good for a small bedroom only and bass limited. The true downside of this is that it is disposable per se because it's functionality is tied to the embedded Roku which is markedly slower than say a Roku stick. So you can feed optical into it, but I am not sure you can use this as HDMI passthrough. It also has USB, and I haven't tried a ethernet card on it, so YMMV on that.

So if you are looking for 3-4 years a throwaway go ahead, else you are probably better getting a proper soundbar and your favorite streaming stick.

For those who prefer wired internet, you can use a USB adapter to add ethernet to the Roku Streambar:

Just an FYI, I have this and it actually does support AirPlay. The main reason I got it was to be able to use Apple Fitness on an old dumb tv we have in our home gym.

Mr. I Understand Radio Spectrum needs to understand the Roku product line because some Roku devices do support Ethernet.

This product is good for a child, like a Fisher price my first soundbar, but for everyone else it's best to avoid and get a real soundbar from a reputable company.

What would you recommend under this price point ?
