This one is a remake of a 2003 game that is close to the original 90's Harvest Moon. That makes it pretty good, since many later games are more tedious.
Here are some alternatives:
Stardew Valley ($15) -- best game ever. Why? The goals, balance, pacing, and variety are just right. Also it is split-screen multiplayer on the switch, which makes it my favorite game to play with my 4 year old.
Story of Seasons Doraemon (on sale for $15) -- good but grindy.
Harvest Moon (Light of Hope, One World) -- bad.
Rune Factory 4 ($30) -- fighting + farming, good but not very well balanced
New SoS ($50?!) ??
Animal Crossing ($50) very good, but boring.
My Time At Portia ($30 though goes on sale for $8) a solid 3d contender with Stardew. Might be irritating on the switch since you need to handle inventory a lot-- lots of time spent putting things into boxes and furnaces (etc.).
SpiritFarer ($30) -- Not actually a farming sim but my top recommendation for people who like farming sims. Besides good gameplay and graphics, it has a great story (also local coop)

I actually liked My Time at Portia better, but I played on PC. My understanding is that the Switch version doesn't look or run nearly as well. Because of that, I'm not sure how much I could recommend it here. It is a very long game (around 80 hours) so you'll get your money's worth if you can handle the performance.

My kids don't like pixelated artwork....so My Time at Portia would be an excellent option.
Besides I already own it from past Epic giveaways. You literally saved me $20+taxes.
That is said if anyone buys Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town and finish it in 1 month there is still trade-in value at Gamestop currently at $12. So potentially it could cost $10 after taxes/trade-in if the value doesn't change. Or it can be sold on eBay/FB/CL...etc.
The Switch version for MTP is $24 and the Xbox version is $13 at Best Buy.

Is the best place to find switch game prices.

I would like to add that Rune Factory 4 has more of an actual story compared to Stardew, complete with comically evil villains and dungeons. RF4 is kind of like an RPG with farming.
ACNH barely counts as a farming simulator but it's fun in its own way
