If you wait a little bit, there may be a part two to Chernobyl. They recently discovered that there are reactions starting back up in inaccessible areas in the basement under the reactors where the cores melted into. If they cannot find a way to reach them and stop or slow the nuclear reactions, it can blow again.

By what metric was it much worse than chernobyl? How many people died from radiation sickness in fukoshima? The answer is none, whereas several dozen people died directly from chernobyl and thousands were exposed to high levels of radiation and likely developed cancer due to the incident. Had the molten core reached the water table, it would have been a disaster of almost unimaginable scale.
