Original Post

To compete with Apple Music, Amazon is providing a free upgrade for Amazon music subscribers without the HD plan to the HD/Ultra HD plan.
I got an email about it but the link inside took me to a trial. To get this to work, open your music app and click Settings and then go to Your Account. There should be a button for a free permanent upgrade.

I think many of you are misreading this deal. For those of us, like me, who were already subscribed to Amazon Music Unlimited at $7.99/month for Prime members, we now get the HD service at the same price. There is no longer an upcharge for it.

This has nothing to do with a 3 month trial of the service. It is an upgrade for current subscribers.
So, I'm an Android user and I've tried Tidal, Amazon Music, Apple Music and Spotify. I've had spotify since it came to the US many years ago, and I keep going back to it. I think maybe because it's familiar to me but I also like the design, user playlists, etc. It will be interesting to see if Spotify's HD subscription will cost money or if they'll go the free-upgrade route like Amazon and Apple are doing. If they do charge more for it, I might finally try Apple Music again.
Amazon Music is a pretty solid service, just wish music discoverability was better.

Spotify has the best music discovery even if their web player and PC software is trash (I use it for work).

This was awesome. My renewal for Amazon Music is coming up in June and now I'm definitely keeping it!

This is just so frigging awesome. Kudos to Apple and Amazon for finally moving to lossless. If this continues I can stop buying cds. Good thing I've Spectrum with no data caps.

The thing I liked most about Amazon music was that it turned me on to Spotify.

Check your email, I received email for free upgrade from Amazon Music to Amazon Music HD. This was link in the email:

https://smile.amazon.com/music/un..._583227020

Alternatively, go to your Amazon Music Account, you should see an option there to upgrade for free as well:
https://www.amazon.com/music/settings

Once I upgraded it now shows as "Individual HD". Renews at same rate as previous Amazon Music (non-HD).

What is Amazon HD:

I subscribe to Amazon Music Unlimited and got an email from Amazon announcing my subscription was being upgraded to their HD tier for no additional cost (previously it was an extra $5 a month for the HD service). The HD (CD Quality) tier also includes many Ultra HD (Hi-Res) tracks.

It appears that everyone with an Amazon Music Unlimited service is now eligible for the HD service at no additional cost:
