ANSWER: The MB8600 is a cable modem bridge that normally only connects to one device, such as a router, computer, HDTV, game station, or other device. We built the product with four Ethernet ports ONLY for two situations that don't apply to most customers, namely Port Bonding and Multiple Assigned IP addresses
Yep, it's just screwed to the bottom using a torx screw.
It's a modem not a router

Can I return this after opening if it doesn't work? RCN website says this model specifically is having problems connecting. Worth a shot for me though if return is easy after opening.

Yes, I just returned one yesterday that I had opened. They will check to make sure everything is there and will also check to make sure the serial on the unit matches the serial on the box.

"One open and 3 masked 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet (GigE) LAN ports allow connection of any SINGLE device with an Ethernet port including a router, Windows/Mac computer, HDTV, game station. The multiple Ethernet ports are not for connecting multiple devices; they allow connection to a router that can bond more than one Ethernet port to achieve speeds over 1Gbps when supported by your cable service."

So are there 4 usable ports or practically only 1 which connects to a wireless router?
