My $5 thermometer and my thermopen always give the same reading. Hell my espresso thermometer gives the same readings.

bad example.

is this the trusty corolla that refuses to die? or the Rolls Royce that's opulent for the sake of opulence?

I have the MK4 after having several no-brand and some better brand thermometers. I can toss them all and keep this, because it'll last longer, and will be accurate.

It's got a lot of nice to have features. If I'm poking 5-6 pieces of meat, waiting 2-3 seconds adds up when I don't want to keep the lid open very long. But what I really love about it is the big numbers on the screen, they rotate how you are holding it, and they also light up at night. It's got a magnet so I can stick it on the fridge when I'm not using it. It has a lot of nice to have things in addition to being more accurate or faster than a cheaper one. If someone is only grilling or checking meat temps once in a blue moon, probably not worth it. For some though, those little features are absolutely worth $70 over the course of 5+ years.

I thought that was $69 each if and only if you bought two. I wasn't interested in two but one at that price is good to me. If you needed two then that may have been a better deal

Great deal! This has made front page in the past, but it was typically limited to a color or two. I have the white one with the silicone cover. I also have two competitors (a Thermapen and no-name from Amazon) that I sometimes test all together. The Thermoworks Thermapan Mk4 is, without a doubt, faster. Eventually the others show the same or similar temperatures, but it takes several 10-30 seconds longer.

Paid full price ($99) a couple months ago. No regrets, this thing is worth it.

Got as a gift in December 2016 and still going strong. Getting a dead-on accurate read within two seconds is a game-changer.

You're right to balk at a thermometer at $99 (and $69 for that matter). But I'd repurchase without any hesitation, particularly at this price. Repped.

Is this price as good as it gets for the MK4? Does thermorworks have a memorial day sale that might have a bigger discount?

It might be bigger, but probably by only a few dollars.

Also, Inb4 the one guy who bought his $7 thermometer comes in asking why we overpay:
Because it's the reason you own a Corolla and other people own a Rolls Royce.
So you're saying it's smarter to just buy the $7 one? Perfect...thx

For those that think this is expensive try looking at the Thermopop. It is essentially the same thermometer for half the price. It takes 1-2 seconds longer and looses some of the automatic functions, but paying double for that seems excessive to me.

Best handheld meat probe thermometer out there. I picked one up a few months ago, and the quality, accuracy, and speed are unmatched. YES, they are pricey, but you are paying for a premium quality item. Highly recommended.
