I tried so hard to like Wingspan but just couldn't. There's too little interactivity between players for my taste. It's like you're all playing your own solo game, but at the same time, then you just compare who was able to get the most points at the end.

It's a fantastic game. Long and involved enough not to be boring to people who play serious board games, but short enough to get through in less than an hour, and accessible. I thought I was going to have to beg my kids to play it, but my 7 year old demands we play it practically every day. The European Expansion is also well worth getting as it adds new game elements/strategies/mechanics. You don't have to know/like birds to enjoy the engine-building strategy, but if you do, the art is really amazing. It's like "Sibley-the game". Most of the complaints I hear are from people who prefer PVP type action. This is definitely more Agricola, less Axis and Allies. It's Catan level interaction, I think.

Depends on your group and if you include the European expansion. With a good group this is a very fast game with lots interaction. The difference between first and last is generally about 6 pts in a 5 player game. About 15 to 30 seconds a turn if everyone can reach their piles. Everyone with triple digit scores. There are quite a few cards that affect other players. Just have to get those engines going early.
Before the pandemic I went to a lot of 12 hr game nights. It's nice to play games with people who are as good or better than I am at board games.

I personally prefer the 7 Wonders mechanic of everyone playing simultaneously and my actions having an effect on my neighbors. It still has the same engine building experience as Wingspan but unlike it I always feel engaged instead of waiting around for my turn. I'm also not a fan of games that use dice because luck usually kills most strategy.
It's just not a game for me, I guess. There are other games that are similar to Wingspan but do it better, in my opinion. Though good on you if you can enjoy it.

Agreed. It's a decent game.
But compared to even Dominion, there's virtually no interaction between players. Only slight amounts when picking food.
Highly overrated game IMO.
Also, the game mechanics don't really make a lot of sense with the theme (how you move to the left). They just kind of.... exist...
If I'm playing a board game with others, I want to interact with others. Not play bird solitaire.

A friend of mine has this game. I 3D printed food replacements, and a box insert organizer that holds the base game plus the two expansions. Also printed a 'bird bath' that holds the first player token. We really like the food replacements over the little cardboard tokens. He's also got an upgraded birdhouse (not sure where it came from).
Its not my favorite game, but it's fun enough that I don't complain when everyone decides to play it.

I guess you just need the right groups to play with. The game has a lot of depth and player interaction. Downtime is only about 2 minutes max with 5 people. We plan our moves in advance. Each person had everyone pulling cards or grabbing food or any number of things.
I haven't played 7 wonders yet. I own it but my group doesn't enjoy it. Haven't played Dominion either.
