This is an aside, but you could consider using a crossbow instead. My father has been an avid bowhunter since I've been alive but has recently developed a condition that limits his strength and coordination (both upper and lower body). He has taken to a crossbow for hunting (along with target shooting) and it has worked very well. While some crossbows have a lever-cocking mechanism, there are also examples that use a crank which requires very little strength.
I bought mathews at a yardsale, years back. I lashed it behind me on my cycle bag. Stopped at my brother's and told him I just picked up an old solocam. He looks outside, looks at me, what are you talking about. I tell him again. I bought an old solocam, goes up to 70 lb. He goes outside, sees the bow. Oh...I thought you meant a soloFLEX!
I just saw this, have you tried tried going on ArcheryTalk? It's not a new Matthews, but my first bow was a Matthews Z-Max. Top of the line from 1999. Bought bow, sights, arrow rest, arrows, release, case for $200 including shipping. Through the years I used consignments through the local pro shops and have upgraded many times.
If your budget is larger than mine, a newer pro line bow already be in your budget. Of course all this stuff is used.
There was a local man who was shooting arrows in his backyard while his kids were running around the yard. I guess his son crossed his path and he shot his own son in the head and died immediately.
This thing will do more damage than a bullet. Supervise your kids. I wouldn't recommend shooting it in the backyard either. Have a good backdrop with lots of room and a view of what youre shooting at for practice.
Could you imagine hitting a neighbors yard and killing something or someone?
The arrow rest needs crazy glue to stick. Or you will lose it.
